Mating behavior?

Postby Luna Bella on Sun Dec 03, 2006 3:05 am

Hi, Luna is about 13 months old and and am wondering about her behavior.

About 2-3 months ago she started squaking or whistling, chipring VERY LOUD for 2-3 hours a day! Driving poor hubby crazy. It would start shortly after she got up (after 12 hours sleep or so) and continue non-stop - well she would stop to eat once in a while.

Now here is where it starts getting a little confusing to me. She is bonded to me, cuddles close under my chin, snuggles, and kisses. When I'm home - I am her world. My husband started having her on the couch with him when he takes a nap - she'll be on his outstretched arm while he sleeps - she'll sleep too - so cute to see!.

She started getting close to his face - she never did that in the first place. He'll pet her on the sides of her body from about the leg up to her neck and head. She'll just stay their, and then start a sqeaky noise like something needs to be oiled, not like a chirp.

This is the only time he gets affection and cuddling from her. She NEVER made that noise with me. If this is mating behavoir, what would the best course of action be?

Yep.. sounds like she's getting hormonal. Best thing is avoid touching her on the back. That would be similar to a male on her back, and could stimulate her even further, leading to egg laying. Females will lay eggs anyhow, but additional stimulation might cause things to happen sooner. The hormonal stage will pass, but in the meantime, you might try rearranging her toys, move the cage to a different location, or make some kind of change in the routine which might help break her out of the hormonal phase.
