Infection

Postby rradrobyn on Sun Nov 26, 2006 9:55 am

The other one didn't seem to go through. So, again, Loki's test results all came back good. His stool swab may be showing signs of infection. So, I have to change out his water to 4 oz of distilled water to 1 tsp. of apple cider vinegar with a touch of honey (wholistic approach, she said). Well, his stool now looks more watery. It has some form, but watery. So, I guess I'll give her a call tomorrow. He was on whole seed, and I switched him easily to Zupreem. Moving to a new home, changing food, going to the vet, etc. probably is a lot for his little system. Any suggestions?

He needs a heat source. A sick bird needs 85 degrees around the clock. Do you have a heat panel or heat lamp that produces no light for the overnight? If not and you need help deciding on an alternative, post back, including the size of his cage and whether you have other birds. If so, how close to him.

I sure hope he makes it. Stress and diet change can cause watery stools, but the infection is a more serious concern.

    Infection

I talked to the dr. on the phone today and she felt I should now take him off the mixture of water. I will take him in tomorrow for another stool swab; he might just be better. The reason for putting him on the special water is for yeast, though she didn't have the results right in front of her today. He is acting well, singing, sitting on his perch, and eating. I've changed the papers in his cage to watch the stool more closely. Thanks for your advice!

    Update

Loki goes tomorrow to the vet. Neither of the vets felt Loki was in any type of emergency and just want to see him back for a recheck of the stool. Since changing the water back to regular ole' water, his stools are thicker. So, hopefully, it's all the food change, home change, and maybe a bit of yeast was in the stool since he came from Petsmart. I'll let you all know what the vet says tomorrow! Also, he is still singing, eating, and seems quite content. All very good signs!
