Just wanted to let you know that we took woody out of his cage again tonight. I was sitting on the couch and I held up a blanket around where we sat him there with me so he could not fly away. He seemed a little upset at first, but quickly came and climbed right on me and sat there for a while, and calmed down. The he climbed up my arm and onto the top of the back of the couch. I slowly put the blanket down and allowed him his freedom to get away and he just sat and stayed with me for about a half hour. Eventually he got startled by something and flew, but he did good, went into the kitchen for a little bit and checked it out and then he flew back to his cage and landed on the floor near it. We just picked him up and put him back in, and he even seemed so much calmer about someone picking him up to put him back-------the first time we did this he bit fairly hard and he never bites! Now he seems to act like he knows that we are going to put him back in his cage! and we have only had him out four times!

All but two of my kids will, on occasion, jump out of the cage and on to the floor, or if they are up top on the play area, sometimes somebody else will force them to flutter to the floor. When that happens, they all immediately look for me or my wife, and with wings in a semi-flight stance, let us know they want to be put back in the cage, or on top. Other times, they do it to get our attention, and want to be held, or something. Yesterday evening, I had some non-routine cleaning to do adjacent to the cages, so I just put them in the bedroom. It was about an hour before their normal bedtime, but everybody started squawking and screaming. Rather than pull the cages back in the den, I just brought the brood in the den and sat on the floor with them. I just didn't realize how much the sight of the cages plays in their security awareness. All were freaking out and very scared acting, even with me within a foot or two of them. Finally got everybody settled down and put them back in the bedroom. Between the cages and their play gym, they are really lost with nothing familiar in sight. Hopefully, that will change as they get a little older and more familiar with the house.
