I currently have 3 cockatiels and 1 parakeet. All of them are housed separate but get along and have group play areas. They are out of the cage almost all day when I am home (which is most of the time) and go back and forth from different cages nd play areas. Sophie is the first cockatiel I brought home so she ended up a bit spoiled. I have a lot of experience with birds but my expertise falls under the category of large exotics such as macaws and cockatoos. I have helped hand feed cockatiels before but never really had any as personal pets.
Now From day 1 I spoiled Sophie because she was not tame. She is now the biggest cuddle bug in the world!! However she calls out all day long. She has more toys than most children I know, other bird friends to play with, and lots of things to distract her but no matter what I try she just squawks and squawks - FOR HOURS AT A TIME! I never did spoil her to the point that she spent all day sitting on me because I did not want that to become a problem later... She is a healthy and happy bird but If I leave her to her own entertainment she starts the calling out.
Any one have any ideas here about how to address and change this behavior. Also The birds are kept in my main room so they see me at all times.. she is not calling out because she cant see me. I talk to them, pet them often and they are certainly not neglected. Spoiled rotten!
