leg band search

Postby bostonbudgie on Thu Jan 13, 2011 10:49 am

"Patches" my new rescue tiel has a leg band.
The leg band starts with AAA
Does anybody have an idea where I could start a search where Patches came from?

Bostonbudgie,

I found this reply from Mfids on Toos.

An open leg band does not guarantee a wild caught bird. I've recently seen about 4 or so conures, jendays and suns, who have rounded leg bands and they came from a breeder! Import bands are suppose to be open, round with 3 letters and 3 numbers. Breeder bands are suppose to be closed, square and have any combo of numbers, letters, and logos.

If your breeder is listed, you could find him here...

If indeed your goffin is an import, she'd be 16+ years old. Did you get the info from the group about the band maker? Have you tried getting a hold of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, someone perhaps from Hawaii? May not be much but you may be able to get a tad bit more info... USDA - APHIS - Import

I did a search on bird leg bands. However, I came up empty. The funny thing though, I did a search seven years ago on my cockatiel Linus. He was a "lost" bird found in the federal building in Boston. A friend of mine found him and contacted me hoping both of us together would be able to locate his owner. He had a leg band on him which I thought would be key to finding his owner. His leg band started with AAA just like "Patches". The only thing we could find that AAA was the breeder's ID who could be either out of Florida or California((but still, untraceable) My friend placed in ad in the newspaper but no one called.I called animal control, placed posters in pet stores and checked the internet. Linus ended up staying with me.
I asked my vet about AAA as well and she had no idea. She suspected perhaps these birds were from a bird mill and sold to petco.
Like I said, Patches I got from a rescue and Linus was found in a public building so where they came from is an unknown.
The mystery remains: who is AAA?
Oh BTW Rhodie, I named Patches after your (former?) congressman Patches Kennedy :P

AAA sounds familiar...

Here's a bit better updated list of links for bands...

If your breeder is listed, you might be able to find them here... (there were two previous sites that had a lot of information about leg bands on them, but have since been closed down)

I'll be surprised if you do, but I wish you the best of luck! I hope there's not too many AAA breeder codes out there, or that you're able to find the right one!

Woody also has a leg band that starts with AAA. He came from Petco and I was told that he was shipped from California. I also tried to find out where he came from by his leg band with no luck......this was the only info I had to go on. I tried contacting leg band companies and then finally just gave up!
