Unusual beak problem

Postby peace2ewe on Thu Dec 09, 2010 4:03 pm

I took my tiel Harley to the vet sunday, it seems that everytime he ate or tried to climb using his beak he would scream..The vet saw only a tiny speck of irriation on upper pallet, maybe a piece of food scratched it or chewing on a toy. He is on metacam for anti inflamatory for 10 days. I just spoke with vet and told him harley eating seed well but not much of anything else and can not use beak to climb. Also he only whistles since this and stopped talking. Anyone ever hear of this? Thanks

I've heard of this happening before. Feed him soft, cooked food until he can handle seeds and pellets again. If he eats pellets, moisten them with some infant apple juice and microwave for 5-10 seconds until the mixture is warm, which makes a nice treat. Birdie bread also is good during times like this.

Sorry he is hurting, but he will recover. I would also take time to figue out what irritated his mouth!
