If I bring food to the cage to put in his dish, or even a new dish of food, he will charge my hand with beak open and attack!!!
Simple solution, don't allow him inside the cage while giving him food. If he's better while outside of the cage, then allow him to come out before messing with the inside contents. If possible, start feeding him food from your hands so he can get more accustomed to your hands being around his cage. Tell him what you are going to do before you do it.

Charlie, my mitred, is the same way, and making some changes has helped.

When I bring him to bed - he'll attack my hand when I reach for him from my shoulder. After I put him in bed, he will charge the cage and peck at it violently.
Toweling him to put him to bed is probably counterproductive. Does he enjoy going into his night cage at any time of the day? Try setting up his night cage so he can explore it, and like Chrissy (in a round about way) recommended, try putting a toy and treat inside so it can be fun. Try leaving him at the night cage but don't force him in. Leave the door open so he can explore it. Try taking him to the night cage from various locations while perched on your hand.

Charlie likes his sleep cage, although that doesn't stop him from being a proper brat once inside!

Thanks everyone -
Christie - the red poo seems to be an isolated event, he doesn't get much red food, maybe a few pellets.
He is aggressive with the day cage - especially when I bring food to it, but if he is on my hand or shoulder, he is fine. I give him avicakes and have to break it up for him (what a brat!!), and he will gladly eat out of my hand, but as soon as I try to put it in the day cage, "Mr. Hyde" comes out. Right now he is locked in the day cage because he was getting very nasty while on my shoulder - trying to bite my ear   Thank God he isn't any bigger like a caique or a macaw!! The little poop! So I locked him in for a while - this was after several quick banishment he obviously didn't learn from. I hear him chirping those sweet little sounds like he is so innocent and has been locked in there for days. Don't let him fool you!!!

I will try more hours of sleep.

OMG I am still cracking up over some of the posts! :D
My budgies are the worst at doing "teenage boy things" to their cloth perches and swings.
It is NONSTOP!!!!!
Whook will do it all day long. He will stop only to eat and then start up again. Smitty will go at it on his cloth swing. Twillinger will get sick of it and kick him off but then he's up there again.
They are the most "active" when I have company. They will be singing and talking while "indulging" themselves.
One of my friends is horrified when they "go at it" while we are having lunch.
My cocktiels aren't as blatant.
My females will take a toy and swing it on their backs while making "peeping" noises. Linus, my male, hasn't done anything like this. Maybe because he has Lucille.

I thought I read up on male behavior even though I had a female first. I don't remember any posts over the years concerning this particular activity and the other side effects that come with the "season". I read they are louder and more vocal and whistle, and I admit it is very nice. I even read about the boys becoming more distant to their people as they sexually mature and become adults. I don't remember ANYONE mentioning the crankiness, or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde behavior !!!!!!!!!!!

Luna was such a little lady with her "desires". Yes - I still miss her terribly and still get choked up thinking about her - especially that horrible night

Of course I still love the little brat - he's so dam cute I can't stay mad at him
