nest box material.

Postby melson on Wed Jun 02, 2010 3:46 am

Hi guys.
I have read on many sites that one has to be careful about what u use in the nest box coz it could be harmful to the chicks.
some say that kitchen tissue paper is good others say its the pine shaving is good.my question is....can we use the wood shavings which is used in hamster bedding...its soft n small....but some also say that the chicks may eat n this may cause a big problem.possible death. so is tissue the best to use as nesting material?

I use "carefresh' which is soft cardboard shreddings. I've never had a problem with it and it clumps well. (when babies poop it is easy to scoop out and clean) you can buy it at any pet shop. i don't like wood shredding because, in my opinion, I find it to be irritating.

You can use carefresh bedding if you can find it where you are. If not, low dust pine or aspen shavings. Do not use cedar or anything that has a smell.
