Identify screaming

Postby Luna Bella on Fri Jan 29, 2010 9:07 pm

I know this sounds like a strange question, but what is the difference between regular vocalizing and screaming? When Dino "whistles" the few little notes I taught him like the wolf whistle and similar 2-7 note whistles it is soft and pleasing. He also does some other sounds that are louder but not quite whistles - more like chirps and chirp-grinding-growling type sounds. Those are not soft and pleasing but louder and funny/amusing to hear a sound like that come from a little bird. I think the screaming is of course the loudest and most annoying, its more monotone and each sound is a couple of seconds long, repetitive and almost urgent sounding. The sound he makes when we leave the room is urgent sounding with clustered quick notes a pause and clustered quick notes.

He makes all the sounds (except the one when we leave the room) when we are in the room with him - especially the screaming :? :? He does it for hours at a time, drapes open or closed light or dark doesn't seem to matter. It is driving S.I crazy

Any suggestions?

Jo

Yeah.....Woody used to scream at times too, but he's settled down now as he's gotten older and rarely does it anymore. To me it sounds like he's whining!! really annoying and quite loud too! Sometimes Boss would join in! I don't really think there's much you can do about it.....I think sometimes they just like to vocalize and let it all out!!

Thanks MTW, I was afraid of that  But it's encouraging to hear Woody calmed down. Dino is a much needier little birdie then Luna was. Although she was absolutely crazy about me  , she would go in her cage and hang out in there. Dino only goes in to eat and most of the time I just know he would rather stay with us then eat - crazy bird.

I would still be interested to hear what others have done about this.

Linus would do this as well but not often. I could sense the sound was 'urgent" as if you say "I NEED TO MATE" "GET HERE NOW I NEED ALL OF YOUR ATTENTION". This usually would happen when I was on the phone with a client
It might be a seasonally hormonal thing with Dino. I would take Linus out of the cage and place him on his play stand by the window to distract him.
