You're most welcome, Jim :D Please let us know what the vet says. We can all learn more, so we might better help others in the future. I'm very hopeful your Ana bell is fully healthy. Here are pix of some of the sad little "feather dusters": http://www.communigate.co.uk/ne/teessidebs/page24.phtml

I'm glad you found a vet, mine is in Calabassas and she is fantastic. There are a few here in Thousand Oaks as well, if you need the numbers I've accumulated, just let me know. Good to see another UAS member so close!!

The feathers you are seeing are the powder down feathers. They are abnormal, which could be health related or that she is not preening these feathers as they grow in. In either case they will look like strings and when worked between your fingers they will crumble and be powdery.

A vet visit is the best for her. he can run some tests and bloodwork to make sure the renal/kidney (located below these feathers on either side of the spine) function is normal.

Ana Bell didn't get to the vet I got called in for over time work.Holidays is our busy season. She is doing better I am misting her every other day, and steam cleaned her cage. I am also changing the bottom pappers daily instead of weekly.she has started preening her feathers again several times a day.She is our first bird. what an education! She wants to rule the house. her latest trick is to dive bomb at anybody that sits in my chair other than me. I will get her to a vet after the first of the year. sorry about the late reply I didn't see that there was a second page of comments started. i check in here everyday sometimes 2 times day.and thanks for your interest in our new house member.
