Toys

Postby Luna Bella on Wed Dec 02, 2009 2:20 am

I can't believe it took me almost a year to realize what kind of toys the little bugger likes!! I don't take clues to well.

Let me explain. I wear glasses and he ALWAYS goes for my glasses!! I swear I could say no 50 times and he'll do it 51!! Then he went for pens in my shirt pocket. I thought that was very cute. I would even clip them to the pocket to make it harder for him. Are you seeing a toy pattern? I know, I couldn't put glasses and pens together !! It took a while but I finally figured it out --------- STICKS!!!!!!!!. Talk about a light bulb moment.

I remembered I had bought a toy last year that was a small sack of some kind of fibrous material with more fibrous stuff inside it and it came with a bunch of sticks! So I put it in his cage and every day for a week or two I was perplexed at why he wasn't playing with them. I had another light bulb moment when I took the sticks out of the sack and saw they were banded together - oh - oops. I untied the bundle and the next day when I came home from work all the sticks were on the floor cage and the ends were getting chewed!!

YEAH!!! I'm learning how to read a bird! Feeding is so much easier - he eats almost everything I give him.

Brillant! :D
You are soooo right about clueing in what birds like to play with by observing them. That is how I figured out they liked straws. When ever I left a straw on the table one of the little boogers would look at me as if she knew she was doing something naughty. She would grab the straw and run away with it.
Can you post a pic of Dino with the sticks?

Pictures with sticks?!!?!? Aside from the stuff he plays with on my person, the only evidence with the sticks is the chewed up ends and they are all over the place!

I find bird toys hard to come by, the ones at KMart, Target etc over here are all the same boring ones and the petshops are overpriced and still don't offer much.
So I have just ordered a whole bag of goodies from a parrot rescue centre in Oz so I (with help from my kids  ) can make my own :D
