hanging on the side of the cage...

Postby WeejiBird on Sun Oct 18, 2009 7:14 pm

the new tiel is adjusting pretty well i think, although she and luigi still have to get used to each other. she is fairly trusting of me, at least enough to step up, and is very sweet. she loves the new cage! i have changed her name from rosie to cecilia, cici for short.

she does do something weird though...she will hang out on the side of the cage, holding on with her beak as well as her feet, and just stay there perfectly still for long periods of time. is this normal?? has anyone ever seen this before, and is it anything to worry about?

i took a picture of her while she was doing it but this file is too big and i can't figure out how to make it fit. :?

Some of my birds like doing that, including some 'tiels from time to time. I wouldn't worry about it as long as she seems so comfy in other ways, like eating, and relating to you, as you've described. You can shrink pictures at http://www.resize.it .

thanks, here is the picture! and thanks for the response, she does seem pretty comfortable otherwise so i guess maybe she just likes to hang out there...

Ahhh, you hadn't mentioned that this spot where she likes to hang is right next to Luigi's cage  You might try attaching a small perch to that spot and see if she's eager to sit on it.

None of my tiels do that, but one does like to snuggle up to objects.... or perhaps her buddy, too!

I agree though, try putting perches on the outside of the cage.

Most of mine do that time to time. I think they do that because they want to see you

I agree, try putting a perch in that spot, it may be that she wants to be near the other bird! :) She is beautiful by the way.

i'm willing to bet that you are all right, she probably does want to be near luigi! i wish he would warm up to her already so that she can. he's been a little bit better, not as afraid of her, but still doesn't seem to have much interest in a relationship of any kind with her.

and yes she is gorgeous isn't she (not to sound like an overly proud mama  ) it makes me so sad because i bet there is someone out there who misses her soo much. but the people who found her were never able to find her owner. she is so sweet. even though she's still a little scared, she won't even bite when she doesn't want to step up (luigi, on the other hand, still gets me pretty good when he's in a crabby mood!)

She is a beauty!! What's her name?

Sometimes we find Dino like that is his sleep cage and it's covered!! Crazy bird! He also does that when we lock him in the cage, between the pacing and climbing the walls.

Strange, Luna didn't mind being locked in. As much as she loved me, she was OK with it. Dino is much needier and has to be involved with everything - except for bedtime, he doesn't mind being locked in.

i'm very glad to hear that she's not the only bird who does this! i had just never seen it before because luigi never did.
