Whistler Rocks !!

Postby Whistler on Tue Aug 18, 2009 8:42 am

Wow,
Extremely Impressed w/ my new friend's intelligence ! Had a few Questions also.
I have had My Bird Whistler for a little over 2 weeks.
He is a very entertaining and cool bird. Sings, Whistles, Talks, Moves around a lot. Starting to play more w/ his toys. Eats pretty good- Have to remember he is a bird.
Couple things I have started to notice. He seems to notice when people are gearing up and starts to somewhat scold them. At one point a friend of mine starting raising her voice when she was venting and he started to screech. The one thing also I noticed is when I get him out of his cage he is starting to bite a little harder . Still no broken skin but it may come to that if he keeps increasing it.
Once he is out he is great. Any ideas about why he is increasing it?
I never pull away and just accept it. I heard to pull away is the wrong thing because it teaches him that he is the boss. Curious if this behavior will eventually stop and why he may be doing it to begin with ? Or if their were ideas on better ways to deal w/ this Behavior ?
He was so cooperative at first w/ Stepping up that I will admit I got out of the Habit of Saying “Step Up” and like I said he is perfect after he is out of his cage.

I think he is starting to develop a "mind of his own" and doesn't like being "removed" from his cage, his safe zone........
I suggest you just open the cage and wait for him to come out on his own, I reckon that will make a huge difference, good luck :)
