Cold Items (Foodstuffs)

Postby chibi-tori on Wed Jun 24, 2009 2:22 pm

Is it just my flock, just me being paranoid, or is there really something to the addage that 'tiels wil NOT eat anything cold, cool, or even remotely below room temperature( Exception being seeds or pelletss I suppose)? I've been pondering this little jewel of info now for some weeks, and can not come up with any satisfactory answers other than "they just don't like cold food, just as humans" or something along those lines. Now I do have one kid, Missy, who will at least *try* and grab a taste of something straight out of the fridge, but mostly not Best things for her to try would be some kind of different wheat-based object, but as far as something like ice cream, pudding, cereal, liquids, or what have you, she's just not going to even get within a beaks distace of it. Hot food is a whole different story. Missy and Suzie both HAVE to have a drink of HOT tap water first thing in he a.m., I guess ike a lot of humans have to have their coffee. Personally, I prefer iced green teal Kuttke to no caffenene, no crappy tasteing over-roasted black coffee witch tastes more like tar than anything else.. mabe I'm just getting set in my old grumppy ways!

Anyhow, just some "Food for thought" :) Pun intended!

Sam

I can only speak for my Baby but she loves cold stuff, She loves ice cream, she loves ice cold bottle water, when I am getting her rice out of the fridge to reheat for her she attacks the bowl of cold rice, when I am refilling her bowl with her pellets and/or seeds from the freezer she loves to eat the seeds & pellets from the freezer.

That's really strange.... We have three kids who absoluutely MUST have their drink of HOT WATER first thing in the morning, I suppose much like people have to have hot coffee, but Suzie and Missy will fly to the kitchen sink, wait till Emi has let the water get hot, then turn it down to a trickle, and they walk across the center divider and gulp down a good quantitiy of water full hot as it can be! Missy has also had a propensity for hot food. When Emi fixes rice, she'll put her rice in a bowl, and soon as she does, Missy, Suzie, Chirp, Gizmo and a couple others just dive in, heat and all. It's hot to the point where I could not put it in MY mouth right out of the cooker! Guess maybe they are like me... always cold :( You believe I still sleep with an electric blanket on the bed, and most nights, it's on about 5 out of 10, and I love being toasty warm... 'course it could be the rat poison I take too causing part of that :(

My birdie Bailey will eat Cottage Cheese right from the fridge.
I put it in my salad and before mixing it in, da bird will fly in, sit on the edge of the salad bowl and eat it cold!

But that's all she'll eat cold. Finicky little thing ...

My birds love frozen things. I feel it is an individual thing for the birds. I can't keep mine away from ice cubes.

Zoran loves to munch on carrot sticks straight from the fridge. He usually sits on top of it and sings, every time we open the fridge he pops his little head down tohave a look. If they arent hidden, in he goes....

But Byrdie never liked anything that was cold. She would wait until it was room temp or go for hot foods. Then again she was a fiend for doritos, if we bought a pack and didnt put them away, she would rip open the bag....
