In light of the recent discussion, I thought some here might be interested in this offer of free testing. It was posted on another forum by someone I don't know, so I won't be able to answer any questions about it. If you'd like to have your bird(s) tested in the next week, talk with your avian vet about arranging it. Here's what was posted:
My friends and former co-workers Drs. Gregory, Ritchie, and others at UGA are now validating a test for bornavirus. They will test blood and fecal samples for free during the month of June. The information can be found at
http://www.vet.uga.edu/SAMS/IDL/BORNA.php
Samples must be submitted by a veterinarian and must be frozen and shipped on ice packs. They are interested in samples from any bird, not just those with suspected or proven PDD. However, they would appreciate any pertinent history of the bird be sent along with the samples. They are also interested in testing birds that have been tested at another lab for comparison.
Remember, as long as the submission is postmarked June 30 or earlier, it is a free test!
