Alive & Well

Postby chibi-tori on Tue May 26, 2009 5:06 am

I'm happy to report upon awakening this morning, our chick who nearly died of strangulation appears to be well and on the road back to good health. She spent a quiet night in a cage by herself, and when I checked on her about 11 last night, appeared to be sleeping without undue distress. I took her out to get to the noodles, seeds, water, etc, and her flight appeared normal, as did everything else, other than her still holding her head against my chest as to reassure me she was OK. Such a relief. Now, if I can just get an equally optimistic prognosis from my cardiologist today, I'll be a happy camper, but I don't think my ejection fraction is going to jump from 28 % up to 45 % where it should be in a normal person. Oh well.... I take it day by day and enjoy what I can. Thanks for kind thoughts for the chick. I'm sure it helped her through the night.

Sam

Sooo glad to hear the little chick is doing well. I haven't had a bad scare like this and hopefully won't, but I know these things happen so easily. The scariest thing that happened was to our dear little budgie who recently passed -- while he was so sick and weak, he fell off his perch and was flapping about and got one of his wings sort of weaved through and stuck in the bars. He was panicking and I was panicking terribly (which I know made it worse) and I thought he was going to rip his wing off trying to get it out. It wasn't until I made myself focus that I saw how to weave the wing back out of the bars gently to free him. I hate to think that I reacted like that because it didn't help a thing, but I was like that when my dog nearly choked one time too. But these babies are so fragile and it is sooo scary.
