Winter: What time is bed time?

Postby Pesto on Mon May 25, 2009 5:52 am

Hi there
Just a general question. It is getting dark very early here with us lately. Pesto is fast asleep at 18:00. What's the general concensus about bed time in winter? I will of course stick with what Pesto is telling me, but it is always nice to know.

O, and he is doing fine. Full of beans

    so are my birdies :)
It's hard not to disturb them though, cuz we're obviously still busy at that time of day
Even though my birds are out in the aviary I still feel we "disturb" them when they're trying to sleep cuz I have lights on in the kitchen and games room and those lights are normally enough to keep them awake but can't be helped :?

Depending on the time of year my guys usually get about 9-14 hours of sleep. I don't keep them to any strict 12 hour schedule.... I let the sun determine when they go to sleep! :D

I try to have my birds get at least 12 -14 hours sleep. Right now, it is light early and stays light til late (I am in the upper northern hemisphere) I still put them to bed at 7:30pm at the latest because if not they are cranky the next morning!
I guess it depends on what your birds are used to...

I keep Dino on the same schedule we did with Luna - 12 hours - 12 -12. I know most of you are thinking it's crazy and unnatural and yes it is unnatural. But with the hours I work and my S.O. being disabled and his schedule is totally off, it works for us. We may go down to 11 or up to 13 but try to keep it at 12.

My birds go to bed with the sun, or scream to go to bed by 7, which ever comes first.

Interesting, I covered my bird at 11pm and uncovered her at about 8am. She was never cranky, the days I sleep in (till 1 or 2 pm) she stays covered and doesn't make a noise till I uncover her.

Although my blinds went down at about 8pm and a dim purple light was on from 5pm (when it got dark) to midnight when I went to bed.

In the summer, I put my guy to bed around 8:00pm, or earlier if the screaming gets to be a bit much (with alot of arguing from him). In the winter, he ususally puts himself to bed around 7 or 7:30pm.
