Dino is changing!

Postby Luna Bella on Tue Mar 17, 2009 8:46 pm

He hasn't "molted" yet, but his face has been! He's a boy alright! Here are some pictures over the last 2 months.

When we first brought him home; 1/20/09

On 2/11/09 About 4 1/2 months old

Tonight on 3/17/09 about 5 1/2 months old

The feathers on his back look like there is brown mixed in with the gray. He's also starting to sing a little about an hour after he wakes up - very softly. No words or copying my whistling (maybe that's a good thing lol). At night he sometimes chirps but it's mostly one tone, and again it's fairly soft.
He's a cutie alright!!

He is such a sweetie!! He LOVES his veggies!! Gobbles up collard greens, beet greens, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots. So far he loves to cuddle up under my chin, hubbys too!! He is becoming more used to his cage and most of his food is in it.

This past weekend he became more accustomed to the water bottle. He hasn't taken to it as quickly as Luna did - I still have to put him in front of it for him to start drinking, but once he does, he's committed to it for that moment. I'm not sure if it's the age difference of just a personality difference. Luna was 2 1/2 when I brought on the bottle for her and Dino is just 5 months.

Anyway, I'm sure he will look different in another month or 2 when he molts his flights and tail feathers!

cute little whiteface :D
How is his behaviour now? Still nippy sometimes?

My babies are molting at the moment, tail feathers and little fluffy feathers everywhere  I think they are now 7 months old

He's only nippy at bedtime - otherwise he's very gentle. He lost a broken feather today, not sure it it's tail or flight so he might be starting to molt. I hope his behavior doesn't change much with maturity. He's much quieter then I expected even at this age - I'm sure that'll change lol. He doesn't bang his beak on anything that I've noticed and I haven't seen a heart wing display. He does spread his wings when on top of his cage the way Luna did, so I am assuming males claim the territory the way females do.

His weight is holding at 80 and I think he is shorter then Luna also. He doesn't seem to be able to stretch to reach things and move around the way she did. I am still trying to get the cage arranged well for him - easier said then done!

One more thing - quite often he'll do a wing flapping after I put him to bed - even with the cover down! Is that a male behavior or just a Dino thing?

the wing flapping I reckon is just exercising but not too sure on that one.....
My boys don't beak bang a lot but constantly display their heartwings and do the "strut" when singing.
There is always one of three singing :D so cute.
Must admit that Noah (dad) doesn't sing at all anymore, not ever, since the boys were born :( Not sure why though.
The thing is, the boys all sound like him when they sing so he must have sung after they were born for them to have mimicked his "song" :?: :?:
