Where To Get Free Bird Food Samples!

Postby HarpSpirit on Wed Nov 08, 2006 8:30 am

I have been trying Roudybush on my fids and it is too soon to tell yet if they really like that brand. I got a free sample of their crumbles when I e-mailed them. Go To http://www.roudybush.com/ Go to the contact us part and write them a message asking for them... they will let you know in an email.

I also called LaFeber and they sent me a very generous sample set! I got some snack bars....a couple pkgs. of nutriberries and avicakes. They will ask how many and what type of birds you have and send you samples for your birds. Here is their number.....1- 800-842-6445

I called 5 different manufacturers, and only LaFebers sent any samples. One told me to purchase the product, and if my kids did not like it, take the unused food back to the store with receipt and they would refund the price. So far, the Avicakes are the big hit, and the pellets are going over quite well with all but one of the birds, however she does like the avicakes. Nobody will touch the nutriberries. I think the size is a little intimidating for them, and they appear to be very hard. More in line with a larger bird I suspect.

I suppose I should try some other brands, but from what I've read about the ingredients in the LaFebers, it would be hard to improve on that. I like all natural preservatives too.. did not see any type of chemicals that would be detrimental, as best I can tell from reading about diet / nutrition info.

Chibi-Tori

Postby HarpSpirit on Wed Nov 08, 2006 11:21 am

Gee...that is too bad....I have recieved free samples from 4 different bird suppliers. Lafebers.....Roudybush.....Harrisons....and Pretty Bird.

But if you are happy with Lafebers....then by all means stick with that brand. :D

My cockatiels were a little put off by the hard nutriberries but I got the parakeet size so they are a little smaller and I do break some of them for easier eating.

food samples

Postby bostonbudgie on Wed Nov 08, 2006 4:52 pm

I got food samples from Harrison. I buy the mash and sprinkle it on the seeds. Eddie doesn't care. She 'll eat the mash right out of the bag.
All my birds love nutriberries especially the orchard flavored ones. They are not tooo crazy over the popcorn ones but they like playing with it:-)

I received a sample of HARI Tropimix and pellets yesterday in the mail. The pellets have a definate orange smell to them, and I doubted anyone would even try them. I put a small dish of the pellets in the cages, and not a single bird would even taste them, including Chibi, who will try just about anything. I guess because it does not smell like grain, they think it is not food. I've not had much luck with any of the kids eating fruit, and didn't really expect them to. The only fruit I ever had any success with was with Coco, now deceased, but she did like oranges and to some degree, fuji apples. I think I'll send e-mail or call some of the others again and see if I get samples. As far as I'm concerned, if they like the LaFebers, not much point in trying to change, but it surely won't hurt anything. I suppose in a way, it's good they don't like the Tropimix, as there is no retailer anywhere in the area that has it. Nearest supply for me would be in FL.

I just tried emailing lafeber and got a really quick response and told they would send me samples. It's nice they do that especially since birds can be so picky sometimes. I have also emailed roudybush and have not gotten a response back yet. My bird eats the nutriberries but only if I break it up into small pieces.

Postby Diego's Mom, Lisa on Sat Dec 09, 2006 10:13 am

I just rec'd two 8 oz. bags from Roudybush. Not sure if Casper likes it, but there is enough to keep on trying. I thought that was great!

I got my samples today from Lafebers and they were so generous, so many things in there-----very nice. I had told them that my bird prefers the smaller bits, so they sent me both the cockatiel pellets and the smaller parakeet ones. My Harrisons samples are on the way still and and still have not heard from roudybush.

Today I tried my bird with the avi-cakes sample I recieved and he was not really eager to try it. I had put a small piece of millet in his dish earlier and when I tried to put the avi-cakes there, he kept picking up that stem from the millet, like he was trying to tell me-----THIS is what I want! but I kept trying. He would walk in his food and knock the pieces out that I put in there----THEN he picked it up with his beak and tossed it on the floor! what a little stinker! I still didn't give up though and he did eventually try it, then he left and went to the back of his cage. Not sure if he likes it or will try it again. Is he a little stinker, or what???
