Got my Roudybush samples in this evening, but the kids had already eaten. Will see what happens tomorrow. I like the limited odor of both the pellets and the crumbles. Much less than the LaFebers.

I am sticking with the Lafebers pellets with my bird. They seem like such a nice company for starters, being so kind to send me so many samples! Plus my bird seems to really like the pellets and has picked them up and eaten them over seeds in his dish! that is a miracle! I have the cockatiel size pellets, and the smaller size ones----I am giving him the smaller ones since he tends to like the smaller pieces.
Oh, I went into walmart the other day and I think you may be right about the price of millet going up. They only had the smaller bag and the price was just about the same as the bigger bag I had bought a while ago, geez! I don't mind spending the money though, for me it's still pretty cheap because I don't give my bird alot of millet at one time. I save it for treats mostly when I want him to get on my finger----I always give him a few small pieces. He knows that bag and as soon as I get it out, he is waiting impatiently for it! I'd be afraid how much he would keep eating if I gave him all he wanted! Millet is just his all time favorite thing!

I work as a pet sitter.(MA/NH) I emailed roudybush and they sent me a good size box of various samples with brochures to give to my customers. I am thrilled!
Does anyone have the website of lafebers?

    Free Samples

Postby Diego's Mom, Lisa on Wed Dec 20, 2006 10:46 pm

I know everyone says it, but Lafeber's sample was amazing! I just got mine today. Two bags of nutri-berries, 2 bags of avi-cakes, and 2 bars. WOW!
Casper already tried the avi-cakes and she likes them. I got her to try the nutri-berries tonight. She loves them! I guess I can finally feed her something else besides seed! FINALLY, found something that she likes.

Lisa - sounds like you received the same assortment as me! Isn't it nice! I have not given Sherwin one of the bars yet....I hope he likes them.

So far, I'm having mixed results with the Roudybush crumbles and pellets. It's hard to tell who is eating what, but I tried separate dishes of crumbles and pellets, but only had a few takers. I did put one feeder full of nothing but the pellets, and can tell when and who eats from it. It looks however, that the LaFebers is going to win out. I'll give them a few more days before I give up on them. Smokey, who does eat his share of pellets, really did not display a like / dislike of the Roudybush goodies, nor did Gizmo. My real acid test is Ginger. If she'll eat it, the others usually will.

    Food

Postby Diego's Mom, Lisa on Thu Dec 21, 2006 11:15 am

Noel - We haven't tried the Lafeber's bars yet either, but will try this weekend. Cut them up a bit and see how she likes them. Will keep you posted though!

And Sam - I am not getting too much reaction from the Roudybush either. The crumbles or the pellets.

I have a vet visit the day after Christmas. Casper's nails are getting a little long and I want doc to clip them. We just passed the 3 month mark with Casper, so I really want to have her weighed too. I am sure my little girl has gained some weight. She looks very healthy!

Lisa - you just reminded me to ask about nail trims. Do you happen to know how to trim nails?

    Nails

Postby Diego's Mom, Lisa on Thu Dec 21, 2006 12:33 pm

I have not trimmed them on my own yet, but I was told it is fairly easy. Casper is just so darn cranky that if I tried to grab her feet, it would be impossible.

If they grow often, I will have to start doing it myself. I don't want to pay the $40 a pop just to bring her in for a nail clipping. A manicure at the local nail salon costs less than that!!

I was hoping they would wear down on their own, like my hamsters, but I don't think Casper is walking / standing on enough hard surfaces to grind them down.

Sherwin's grow so fast that I would love to do it on my own....but talk about sounding like you're killing him. I picked him up once to check his nose and you would have thought I was torturing him. :D

As a side note to the last few posts, I used a dremel tool to grind Gizmo's nails down. All it took was a very brief touch, and I almost got them too dull, but that's the way to go.

Coco had a nail which was *way* too long, but since she would not let me hold her, I just ignored the nail. It was long enough that it curved around to the side instead of down. At some point, I noticed this long nail was no longer there, and a new nail had mysteriously appeared. I got a sneaking idea, if the nail gets out of whack, they can shed them like dogs do. There must be a nail living inside the outter nail, or there's no way she could have grown one in that quick. Our Heinz 57 dog of years ago did that, but I kept his clipped from a puppy, so it was no big deal.. in fact, he loved to have somebody mess with his feet and nails. Too bad the kids aren't like that!

    Food, now nails!

Postby Diego's Mom, Lisa on Thu Dec 21, 2006 3:19 pm

Bird Torture!!! I know the feeling. I try to pick a loose feather off of her beak and she squawks like I have plucked a live one!!!

A dremel tool? I would have never thought of that. I think my hubby has one. Is it loud when it runs? Does it scare him when you do it?
