Stella's new name

Postby Luna Bella on Thu Feb 12, 2009 9:24 pm

After much debate, we decided on Dino!! I would have been fine keeping him as Stella - but you know how men are!! The hardest part of this is referring to Dino as "him" "he" and "his"!!! Both of us still say Luna, Stella, her, hers, and she :? :? :?

My next query concerns "beakiness" He seems to "fight off" my finger when he sees it but then steps up anyway  Definitely when he's tired but also other times of the day. Is it a male thing? Luna did when she was very tired and that's about the only time.

At what age do they start the wing displays?

Jo

my boys started the wing thing at about 8 - 10 weeks.
That's why I knew from an early age who was a boy :D
With the 6 babies Meg and Noah had, 5 of them were boys and I kept three.
What is funny is that they all have a fairly similar "song" :)

Noah used to nip as well, and hiss, but I don't think he was as tame as we were led to believe :?
Best thing for him was to put him in an aviary with his new girl Meg, they are now a happily married couple
Not sure why Stella ummm Dino  has started doing it now, that's a shame :(
Perhaps sometimes he doesn't want to be picked up.
I hope he grows out of it!
Good luck :)

Pesto does the finger fighting thing as well. But he only does it if he doesn't want to be moved. Like in the evenings when it is time for him to go to sleep in his cage, and he thinks it is still too early (even thou he'd been sleeping for half an hour on his play gym), he will pretend to bite my finger when I want to put him back in his cage. Also, now with him not having such a sharp beak, it takes a bit more for him to climb around his cage and on his play gym. So, I help out. We have this "pointing" system. I ask him where he wants to go and then I point to a spot and say "Here?". If I put my finger out to him and he fights it, I know it is not the right spot. I repeat the question, until he gets on my finger without fighting and then I put him where he indicated. :D Sound bizzare, but it works and he knows exactly how it works :!:

When Rosie don't want me to move her and shes perfectly happy where shes at and I put my finger out for her to step up she will get my nail in her beak (I have kinda long nails) and push my hand away from her and then let go of my nail. It's really so cute..

Dino, like on the flintestones.. Thats cute.. I wonder how long it will take him to get to know that he is DINO..

no no, that is just "playing batbird"
THe wing display is when the boys show off.......they tend to strut around a bit on the perch, hopping sometimes, sometimes they bob their heads or bang their beaks on something and they put their wings out a little, when you look from behind the wings sort of make a heart shape.
It's adorable actually :D
