Molting Now?

Postby KentV on Sun Aug 31, 2008 10:17 pm

As you may recall, my little silly guy bit more than half his feathers off when he was last ill.

I got him to the vet too late.

Well, ten months later, all of his feathers are back, but I'm now seeing some of his chest feathers and leg feathers strewn around the bottom of his cage.

I am scared something may be going on. He picks at himself just a little bit.

Is now the time of year for a molt? Am I just seeing normal feather dropping and some fussiness, or do I need to run back to the vet?

thx

Hey Kent

Gald to hear he is recovered from his ordeal. Cisco is always molting somwhere on his body so you are going to have to make that call. I know our 'tiel went through a major molt about onec a year so it seems that maybe it is close to that for your guy - but watch him closely - if he even begins to have bare spots or there is not any pin feathers coming in where he is preening get him back ASAP. Hate to here of him going through that again.

I would keep a close eye on him just to be sure - but all my guys are loosing tons of feathers right now - I vacuum and ten minutes later all those darn little feathers are floating around. Chili (my plucker) is getting tons of new feathers and they are so sensitive that he gets mad and bites at them. He has more feathers now then he has since this time last year. I usually take my Christmas photo's of him in Aug or early Sept when he is less naked.

Hope that all is okay.
