Hey agen, and thankyou for your advise. i have made the decision not to get a caique. also, i am now saving up for a quaker instead, as these birds are ALOT cheaper and since i wanted a bird with a talking ability, i think this parrot would be a better choice. also, i am paying for it all myself. Before i make a definite decision tho, i am going to research these little guys very thoroughly. But if you have any suggestions for me on this bird too, please let me know. i really appreciated your advise :)

Quakers can be quite loud, screaming for attention when their humans dare do something other than adore them. They're the loudest birds in my large flock. The purchase price of a parrot is hardly significant compared to the costs of vet care, cages, toys, and food. Whether it's a Quaker, caique, or macaw, the initial vet exam will be about $300 and then $200 for each annual exam afterward. If the bird gets sick, it can be $500-$1,000 in just a day or 2 of testing.

Parrots are very expensive pets. I'm still hoping you'll decide a dog is what you want.

Yes Bluesbird after paying the intial 2000 for getting things setup for CoCo, I paid another 500 in vet visits, for a healthy bird checkup. Plus the fresh food is not the cheepest either.

You really just don't know how much they will cost.

Good for you for choosing to research another bird. Take your time, no rush. and good of you replying cause the first time people told me not to get a bird right now, gosh I wish I listened, I was hurt and angry. But i grew a thicker skin.

Quakers aren't guarnanteed to talk. i'm sure you've heard the thing" Dont get a bird just for talking ability. You might get a grey and have it never talk" So don't let this be your only wanting for a quaker.

Good luck with your journey, please make the right decisions. Keep us posted on what you decide.

I'm rooting for another doggie too:)

I would love to get a dog. But we don't live in a very big house, and i don't really like little dogs. I would LOVE to have a golden retreiver, but i just don't think it would be fair to it. (also, we have a VERY small yard!!) but yes, i do realize that there is no guarentee that a bird will talk, but i really like quakers. They are very pretty and cuddley (my friend has one) and like i said before, they are cheaper. yes the vet bill gets very pricey, but i am aware of that. anyway, thankyou again for your help, and i will keep you posted as to what bird i choose. :)

I hope you are also aware how stubborn quakers can be and territorial! They can also be nippy! And then there are conures! They are loud, nippy/bitey, brats!

Before you get any bird, be aware of the cons of them in case you have to handle them! I've had birds since I was 12 years old, and would love a quaker (lived in California where they are illegal until Jan of '03) but I've got plenty of birds for now! Most are rehomes coming from bad places, and I've adopted out three cockatiels, out of all the birds that have been given to me thus far. I've tried finding homes for the budgies too, but they aren't as easy to place in good homes. So something to be aware of, because you have a bird(s), someone might consider giving you theirs because they no longer want their bird or?

I was recently asked how much I spent getting the birds... 2 conures, 5 cockatiels, 5 budgies, 1 bourke (discluding starling) $10-$35. Two budgies from a pet expo, $10 together. Casey, who was a gift to me, but I may have paid $15-$25 for her? How much have I spent since taking them in? Hundreds! I honestly don't know how much, but the price of their care doesn't bother me one bit! When I place a bird in a new home, I don't ask for a fee, no matter how much I may have spent on that particular bird. So long as they go to a good home, that's enough payment for me!

So I hope your able to find a great companion, and you are fully aware of the commitment that the bird will need within the next 15-40 years! And I hope that nothing comes in the way of your care for your feathered companion! Many people don't take into consideration going to college, marrying, having kids... and the costs of all that and a new life entails...
