I picked a baby!

Postby Nikki on Tue Jul 08, 2008 2:48 pm

Hey again!

I just wanted to put up a picture of the baby I decided to buy. The breeder I found before with the closed aviary has a male and she's been great the last couple of weeks dealing with all my questions, so I've decided to buy from her.

I don't have him just yet, hopefully within the next few weeks. He's still asking to be handfed during the day, so we're going to take our time before shipping him.

I named him Jonesy.

*Edit* I removed this photo to see if I had the quota to put up a file in another post.

Also!! I have 2 more quick questions. I know it's a silly question, but I'm having trouble figuring out what sized crocks to order. I'm just trying to get some extra dishes that will fit the cage I got, but most are 20 oz or 8oz. I filled the stainless steel dishes I have with water and they hold 14 and a bit! So I don't know what size to order, that would fit into the feeding cup holders.

And does anyone else use "Premium" brand Feather Tether harness and leash for their caique? I was wondering what size to get.

Im happy for you- the wonderful world of Caiques awaits!!!!! I have a tether for Cisco (he wont have anything to do with it) we got him a small They come in x small, small , med , and large. Just take the crocks that come with the cage down to your local supply and match them up the best you can I would guess 8 oz. Good luck

    hi,

and welcome to the wonderful world of caiques! i just love my boy! he just turned a year old. i have an avitar harness for him x-small...he doesn't like it, but i'm still working with him to get him used to it as i definetly think he should be on one when i take him outside. altho his wings are clipped he can get enough lift to get into a tree or out in the road so it's a good thing to have them on something!

Until he's willing to wear his harness, you could take him out in a small wire crate. Mine love their outings in theirs :) As you said, even clipped birds can take flight ... too often to their death. Really not what we want a fun outing to become

yes, that is a good suggestion. i have a very nice travel "cage" i can put him in, put a wire crate would give him more visual experiences! until he gets used to the harness.

Well, things didn't go so well. Again. It turns out that's not my bird. I found out a few days ago that the breeder made a mistake, and while I've been in contact with her for the last month or so, she had me confused with another girl she already sold this bird to.

    So that's not my guy.

Back to the drawing board. I can wait for this breeders new birds to be ready in October, but I've also been contacting Black headed breeders I never spoke to before. One of them in particular has an excellent website, you can really tell they have a great aviary. So we'll see. Maybe it's a black headed for me. Pretty heartbreaking though! I definately learned my lesson as far as not getting so attached until I actually have him in my hands.
