Black or White?

Postby BluWillow Farm on Thu Mar 27, 2008 2:33 pm

Just curious, besides price, and looks, is there any differences between the WB or the BH Caiques for a pet? Personality? Activity? Size?

Thanks!

Dan

From what i've heard, the only differnece is the beauty of the w/b I like the bright range on their heads. I chose the caique for their hopping and clownish ways. It's also a matter of how much dough you want to spend... as you've seen the white bellies are more exspensive. BH or WB I think they act all the same... have you chose a breeder yet? There's plenty of them out there. I will get a jump on recommending Gloria@ shady pines aviary. She is the best in my eyes. will keep in touch Nanc 8)

Havent chose a breeder. Kind of watchin price, talks, opinions.

I have known I wanted a Caique back when they where 300 a pair........and that wasnt that long ago. (Or is that an age thing)

And I am kind of hoping to get one lil cheaper from a breeder, local?, that I can finish feeding. Not only for bonding, but for price too.

    Thanks for the info!!

I got Yankee (BH) from DJ Feathers and they are also wonderful. I know that they won't sell an unweaned baby. They do ship and Yankee flew in in perfect condition.

The only difference I've really heard of is that the WB's (particularly the males) seem to be slightly more docile and less aggressive than the BH's. But I don't think the slight difference in aggressiveness with the BH's is anything to be concerned about.

Oh, WB's tend be slightly larger than BH's also.

    Hi,

I have 3 white bellies and 2 BH. Each has it's own personality and somewhat stubborn attitude . Actually, the longer you have them and can read what they want, we now get along just fine. They will definitely try to test you whenever they can.

I live in Minnesota and actually have a friend who currently has a little BH that is weaned. She is a small breeder but I know the bird is very sweet because I took care of it while she was in the hospital. Of course, I didn't get much done while it was out of the cage because it jumped on my head and hair surfed and rode to the bathroom to clean the water dishes and then jumped in the running water. Oh, they are so much fun and so busy. I also two excellent caique breeders here in the twin cities. But I have never know a caique pair to go for $300. Usually $500 is the low end and white bellies are $750 and up. However, a rehomed one may go a little lower and 3 are in the 2nd home. I would never pass on one who needs a home verses a baby because you think you won't bond as well, because that just is not true. However, the 2 that I finished hand feeding and raised from 11 and 14 weeks are very loyal and usually remember that I am "mom".

PS - both of my sisters live in Appleton and Neenah. And I checked out your website. I would love to have a hobby farm.
