HA! Well I jinxed myself! She had a FANTASTIC morning. I had her out for a few hours playing and whatnot. I put her back in the cage b/c I had to run to the bank. She happily went in to eat. I came back 15 min later...opened the cage and she went lunging at me. I had an old navy fleece pullover on, and I had my hands in the sleeves, and I gently put them around her body and talked to her all nice. Ha..she forgot about the biting and liked the fleece! lol what a wacko!

Yes, Lunge Biting

Postby KentV on Sun Mar 23, 2008 11:32 pm

My little guy lunges and bites my youngest son.

Frankly, I think he senses hesitation and caution in my son, but I don't know why a bird, especially a BHC, would do that in your case to its regular, full time owner and provider.

I like the idea of grabbing her beak, but does that mean you have to get into a fight first?

I assume you play all day with your little birdie? She just lunges randomly?

Well, it's weird. she'll lunge when I come home from school or work. i cant be home ALL DAY LONG! If she has it her way, she'd be out of the cage 24/7- It's impossible. I think she's pissed that I leave and then come back and she bites me out of frustration.

Yesterday she jumped on my brother from her playgym and bit the hell out of his neck and ear. He's not around a lot b/c he doesnt live with us. I was watching her...everytime he would walk past her playstand, she'd try to jump on him. well, this time he walked by and paused and she jumped right on his back and started biting his neck and ear. it was bad too... took a chunk out of his ear and gave him a welt on his neck. It didnt help that he was swatting at her and I had to grab her. but once I had her she was calm. I think she senses he doesnt really like her. She's bit him before.

oh my michelle..lola is being a stinker! i've heard that some caiques can really dislike certain people...your poor brother must meet the criteria :(
i forget how old is lola now? i really do think this is probably just a phase she's going through. wishing you alot of patience at this time.

Yep

Methinks that many Caiques don't like others outside their own "flock'. When my mother in law was hear he nailed her and now my sister in law is visiting and he jumped on her and bit her neck. Poor girl - she took care of him when he younger when we went on vacation. Apparently he forgot. Im hoping he just does not like her family and that wont apply to mine but at this point Im not very hopeful. He seems like he is going to be s@@t to anyone who is not a household member.

Yes, welcome to Spring! Beaker (7 this year), has been terrible so far this spring, but you have to just ride it out. I think it's harder for the females, but I agree with Paca and let her 'do her own thing'. Don't do the 'submission' thing, read Sally's "Companion Parrot Handbook" for extra help with patience for you and distraction for Lola.

Ok, so Lola has been MUCH better with the biting. She's been doing it very rarely. So hopefully we're over the hump!

Michelle,
That's great! hopefully it was just a phase and she's over it now! Sparky and Mika seem to be calming down a bit from their spring frenzy too.
