First Words !

Postby Freddy on Wed Oct 31, 2007 12:48 pm

Cisco said his first words a few days ago and he keeps gettin better every day. I know its silly but he says "get your beak" That is probably his favorite game. I tell him "gonna get you beak" and he runs or if he is wound up hops toward me really fast and pretty much thrusts his head in between my fingers so I can grab his beak and wiggle it. He thinks its great fun and will do it over and over. The last couple days now he says (squeaks) it and will take it upon himself to initiate the game !!!!! The voices they have are awful cute. Any first words you all remember?

It's almost better than hearing a new human baby say Dah Dah isn't it? Congrats to you and Cisco. I think the first thing Beaker said was his name, although he says everything twice so it's always, Beaker-Beaker.
Caiques aren't known for their vocal ability but you can teach them simple things if you start early and stick with it.
Another phrase that seems easy for them is "Peek A Boo". Beaker will say 'what'd ya doin', but it's not very clear. He's better at picking up and mimicing various sounds and noises.
You'd think almost all birds would at least be able to clearly say 'step-up', but Beaker can only manage something that sounds like 'eh uh'. Some words are not easy for them and every caique I've heard has a mechanical, robotic type voice.
Glad he's talking back!

That's great! my two are mostly whistlers and they mimic all sorts of noises. They do say a few words but they have very gravelly voices and don't enunciate very well so you sort of have to know what they're saying to catch it. But Sparky will say "nice blue sky" and I think both say "outside". They love to go outside in their travel cage and to watch the outside birds. Sparky used to say "pretty bird" but I haven't heard it in a while.

That's great! Brady has never spoken any words that were actually decipherable. I think sometimes he tries to say "Hiiiiiiiiii!" but it comes out as more of a long gravelly whistle. He's great at imitating noises, especially the low-battery smoke detector beep (visitors always love that one!). He also mimics the microwave, running water (that one's interesting), and occasionally our alarm clock! He can do the wolf whistle, too. :-)

Dweezel's first word with us was "hi!" which he said with such enthusiasm that I laughed everytime. He would fly to my head, say it and wait for a response. So I would say it back and then he would say it again and we would go back and forth for minutes at a time until I got tired of it and we played a little. I think the next saying was "be a good boy" which he now has morphed into "be a good boy beer." (a great topic starter for a family of people at a bird fair  )

Its great to read your posts about your kiddo's words. Im pretty sure Cisco is working on his name and Poop so we will see later I guess. He is already a really good whistler and beeper and Ive always maintained that talking is really just a bonus with them. I love anyway they are (but it is funny!!!). I especially love "Hi Poopy" Michelle that is a riot!!!!

That's great Freddy, and Cisco isn't all that old, either. Daisy is almost 17 months old and says "step up" very clearly, and uses it correctly.... and also says "pretty bird" not quite as clearly. She knows about 4 different whistles but that's about it. She might be working on something, because sometimes she uses her 'human' voice but we can't understand her. She's a riot and we sure do love her.

Jessie is 2 1/2 years old and she says: Where is my baby, Up, what, poop, baby bird and b bird or b b b b bird. She also wistles little songs she makes up and makes sounds she hears around the house like our security system beeping when I come in. She also mumbles things that sound like words but I can't tell what she is saying. They sure are little entertainers.
