Louie's First Long Road Trip

Postby Kmoore on Fri Oct 12, 2007 7:42 pm

Well, we've finally made the final move back to Ohio. Louie had his first LONG road trip travelling to and from Kentucky this week. What a great traveller! I am so pleased since we just purchased a RV and plan to have him on the road quite often. In the car I used the small dog carrier and he was totally fine (he had used the same carrier for the trip home from the breeders and to and from the vets -- each trip about and hour long) so on these 4.5 hour trips he ate, played, slept, and ate again...oh and of course pooooo'd too  :?
He was a good trooper all week in his travel cage also. It is so much smaller than his regular cage I was worried he'd get PO'd and start vocalizing his unhappiness, but he was fine. Despite all the packing, furniture moving, cleaning, and general confusion, he just enjoyed the new view out a new window, played with his familar toys, and once I replaced his rope swing with his sleeping hut he was willing and ready to hit dreamland for the night. :D Yep, very pleased with his reactions.
Tonight when we pulled in and Louie got back in his cage he was quick to inspect his treat bowl though... Yes, he got extras treats!
Just wanted to check in and  well, brag a line or two about my little guy.
By the way, my little dog is a seasoned traveller and has always been great in the car...well with Louie's carrier in the back seat, Max (my dog) has decided he prefers the front seat/Mom's lap, instead of sharing the back seat area...hummmmm :? I guess there's a little cunning  in even the sweetest of our companions.

Cool story.... I enjoyed it. I just recently moved also with my new wb caique "Cookie"--- She was singing away and I know she was nervous. We only moved from one city to another but she still was okay. I kept her in her cage in my front seat, should have used the dog carrier like you. The cage barely fit in my car. Thanks again for sharing!! Nanc :D

What a good little guy you have! You're going to have so much fun traveling with him.
