Just got a black head yesterday at 6 pm. he has not eaten.
very loving and active but willnot eat.
you name it I have given it to him.

am I over anxious? shuld I be concerned?

As long as he's very loving and active and doesn't fast TOO much longer, I think he'll be okay. But I'm curious how old he is, how long past weaning, and what he's used to eating. Do you have a well-baby vet exam scheduled for right away? Are you carefully quarantining him?

Hope so, hope so, and hope he eats soon. Finger feed him warm, moist comfort foods like mushy sweet potatoes and banana.

thanks I will ..The document we received said he was hatcched may 9, 2007. I will take him to the avian vet tuesday is he eats tomorrow if he does not. He did niple a waffle this am. but he did not touch hes seeds or his fruit and he drinks little, if he sat like a mope I would be really worried.

yes he is seperated from the other birds. I will tellyou about Ben some time. I believe I saved him since the store I got him from was less than clean,,long story..

I went the kitchen to do dishes and as I watched him he began to eat. Messy cage now and I could not be happier.

How is your baby BH doing today? Still eating and romping in typical Caique fashion? How much does he weigh?

Ben ate it seems and his cage is messy. I hope it continues and feeling confident it will. We tried to make an appointment with the vet today but we could not get a time that suited both my wife and I . I beleive my wife will take him Thursday or me wed.

The short story is he was in a "avian" store and I first met him in july 2007. as soon as I saw him I knew his name was Ben. I took him out of his cage and he was very loving and active. Told my wife but she wanted a Eclectus first, which we did get in Auguat 2007. last month for some reason she started talking about a Caique. I assumed Ben was long gone so we started looking just last week. We drove to Miami and look on line and they were scares. Then last friday we saw a baby in a big pet store and he was just great but $1100. No way I said to the man and we left. I asked my wife if she want to see if Ben was there? So on the way home we took a ride to the messy store. There He was just sitting since his cage was 14x14 with seeds to eat no toys, just bad. So I asked the owner if this was the same bird I saw 2 months before he said he did not know. sneaky bastard. So I asked my wife to read the leg band and she did and it was #600. Now the bird is with my wife in another part of the store and she is in love, I ask the man how much and he says $750. Now I do remember that he wanted $850 last July so I felt that this was Ben after all. Told him we would think about it and started to leave. My wife stopped to buy some toys for our other babies and I went back to Ben's cage. He look me square in the eye and said
"get me out of here". As soon as my wife and I got in the car we started talking and as I said she fell in love just like that. I told her the leg band I saw was 654 not 600 but it was so long ago I may have forgotten. Then I remembered that I actually wrote the band number on the back of this guys business cards. So at a stop lite I looked through the pile of business cards I keep in my car. Here it is avian bla bla bla.. turn it over and lo and behold. #600. I almost dropped, my wifes eyes lit up. I said thats that then, we will get him Monday night after work. Now this was a friday nite and I had to work Saturday 9-5. I could not eat or think about anything but my boy in that place. as soon as I got out of work that saturday I ran down there paid the man his $750 plus tax and took him home. Could not stand the thought of Ben staying one more nite in that place let alone 2. Did not tell my wife and her reaction when she got home from work was a classic.

Moral of the story. "whats meant to be can not be denied"

Oh I love stories with happy endings! I'm so glad that you went back to the dirty pet shop and, that Ben was there waiting for you. You are a good egg in my book! You and Ben are soul mates. I'm so happy for Ben that you understood exactly what he was saying to you.

What a great story. I am so glad that little guy got a good home now. Is he eating better now?

I sometimes make a little bit of cream of wheat and feed my guys with a spoon. Or scrambled eggs. And they love toast or even just bread. I have been getting the 12 grain bread - even tho it costs a bit more, it has lots of good things in it.

Hope Ben is getting used to his new home - it ususally only takes them a short while to adjust - they are such curious little guys and just have to get out and snoop around and explore.

I love this story too many coincidences you found the card that u had written the band # on, How cool is that. Ben was meant for you, what a blessing!! I lived in miami all my life... Kendall-- Now I live in Cali. and I just got my caique on July 2nd. SHe hatched March 27 th 2007. Caiques are very funny and unique birds. Lotta pizazz in these little bodies. Which hole in the wall did you buy him from maybe I can remember it? ANyways, good work you saved him!!!! Nanc
