Night talk?

Postby Freddy on Fri Aug 17, 2007 9:14 pm

A couple of times in the last few weeks I have woken up to Cisco cheeping very softly in the middle of the night. This is usually around 2-3 in the AM. I usually just clear my throat a little and he quiets right down. I dont know if hes cheeping in his sleep or if this is typical for Caiques. Anyone else have this experience?

Does Cisco sleep in your bedroom? Is his cage covered?

Jamie slept in my bedroom a couple of times and I noticed that she was awake a lot. I think it was because she was not used to someone tossing and turning... I try to avoid having her in my bedroom because neither of us gets a good-night sleep. My Senegal on the other hand can sleep through anything!

When Jamie (and Joey) sleep in another room, they don't wake up at night - or at least they don't make any sounds. Joey sometimes has night frights but that's another story...

I was babysitting a Citron-crested cockatoo for a few weeks and she was awake and talked several times during each night. I read somewhere that it's common for cockatoos to do that in the wild. I haven't heard about other species but who knows?

Yes he sleeps in our bedroom but he is covered. He usually quiets down and goes to sleep quickly.

talking at night

Postby NancDavidDJ on Fri Aug 17, 2007 11:52 pm

cookie sleeps in our closet in our bedroom and before we go to bed she hears the t.v. and starts whistling and screaming as if to say, Let's go to bed already!!! Sometimes I put her in the other room and she stays quiet. Maybe cisco hears snoring or talking--- if you talk in your sleep??

How interesting! I have no idea if Daisy is up in the middle of the night. Sometimes I hear her walking around a couple hours after we've covered her and shut the lights out in the other room. Our bedroom is way down the hallway, so I can't hear her once we go to bed. Maybe I'll put the baby monitor (grand daughters'.. lol) in there so I can hear if she makes noise!

Inquiring minds want to know! :)

About a week after we moved into our new house I heard Marco making gentle peeping noises in the middle of the night - he sleeps downstairs - I went down to see how he was and he was just sitting awake. He looked fine, but awake. I picked him up - he was eager to come to me. We sat for a bit and then I put him back to bed. That hasn't happened before or since. I don't know what startled him or if it was the new house.

Yankee makes little noises if he is disturbed. If I had to guess, Freddy, I would bet that you are doing something that is waking him. I would move his cage.

If he's in your room, he will actually stay somewhat awake until it's quiet, so it's really best for them to have their own 'sleep place. They do make little noises though.
Before I got Beaker into his 'nighttime' cage, he would make little noises and I'd always comment that he was saying, "mom, can I have a glass of water", or "mom, will you read me a story". LOL Like a kid would do.

Hey

He is always in a great mood in the morning so I dont think he is losing sleep but we will probably move him to the den for sleep time. We want to get him a larger house so that will be a good excuse to spend some money (he is so spoiled)

LOL aren't they supposed to be spoiled? That's what Sparky and Mika told me.

They do make a little noise if we go into the kitchen after bedtime, sometimes. If they had a long day playing then they are out and nothing will wake them. Sometimes it is just a little cheeping other times I think they start to fight over the covers. :) I let them know it is just me and they go right back to sleep.

Yeah Cisco fell off his perch once also. Does it all the time when hes playing but just once when sleeping. We checked on him and he just looked at like "what?".

Lola just fell out of her hut this morning with a huge bang! That's one hell of a wake up call!

It's weird.. Lola sleeps in her everyday cage which is downstairs and backs up to the steps. She knows everyone in the house's footsteps. She knows mine and always calls for me once she know's I'm up. But if my grandma happens to stay with us one night and gets up early and walks down the stairs, Lola will do this scream/growl thing. It's very funny. She knows it's not a regular footstep so I guess she tries to scare it away!

yeah -- its amazing how loud 140 grams can be when it hits the bottom of the cage. Made us jump up. He was totally unfazed - they must be built out of pretty tough stuff.
I thought he would have a night thrash like our 'tiel did but that did not happen. I guess they are not prone to that?
