ANTS!

Postby Cathy on Sat Aug 04, 2007 7:17 pm

I have had a problem with ants since I moved into my apartment. Help, help, help!!! They were even in Yankee's cage. I have sprayed the foundation on the outside but they come back every 4-6 days. What can I do? The Yank isn't going to suddenly become neat in his eating habits and I sweep the floor often, but... ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Cathy

I use 5% Sevin dust, just the tiniest little sprinkle at their entry point into the room or across their path. You can get it at Home Depot (only the 5%!). Run get some tonight and sprinkle a tiny bit near each wheel to get them out of that cage tonight. They're usually completely gone within 1-2 hours. When they come back, as they always will for the rest of our lives, sprinkle a little more. It won't hurt any of your animals.

Hi Cathy,

I had a problem with ants this summer as well. It was awful! I tried various products from Home Depot and even made my own bird-safe ant traps (see http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww36eii.htm ) but nothing seemed to really work. The ants have been gone for a few weeks but I still see some on the deck.

I put the cage wheels in plastic containers filled with water. That was the only way that worked for me - both cages were ant-free even though the ants were in the bird room. You do have to change the water often though.

Good luck and let us know if you find something that really works.

ants

Postby NancDavidDJ on Sun Aug 05, 2007 6:38 am

I had the same problem last year, they haven't hit me yet this year. I bought the bait trap where they take it back to the nest. I taped those suckers everywhere with scotch tape. I'd clean and vaccum everything and they would move to the next room on me the next hour or so... Also used BORAX, sprinkle it in between the base boards and carpet since that is usually how they commute. So bait and BORAX is what worked for me. Hey you wanna hear somethin funny.... my neighbor downstairs told me "Oh you are lucky to have ants, she said it means money" .... So about 2 days after she told me that, I got into a little accident in my car, to make a long story short--- his son was 21 and he did'nt want his insurance to go up so he gave me a check for $1,744 to fix my car which had only a couple of scatches on it. So---- good luck and I hope they (ANTS) broing you lots of $$$ money too!!! Keep us posted :o

I got rid of the ants from Yankee's cage RIGHT AWAY! I cleaned it and then put water in the bottom tray. I haven't had any more ants in his cage but they are still coming in occasionally so I will try the Sevin. I thought about putting the wheels in water, too! Thank you so much for your help, Cathy

Go to eartheasy.com and you'll find other safe ways to get rid of ants too.
