Caiques must see quite well

Postby Jan&Maile on Thu Aug 02, 2007 4:18 pm

My BHC was whistling and chortling like crazy last Sunday evening. We at first thought it was because of the robin or other birds that fly by her window (third story) and check her out, but not this time. It was a colorful and slow moving hot air balloon. It wasn't even that close, but was high in the air. Caiques must see quite well.

You would be amazed at what they can see! Birds can actually see colors and lights that we cannot. That is why sometimes your normally calm bird will start screaming and flying like a mad-bird all around the room!

Beaker can see things I can't even find with my binoculars! Of course he has to give me his 'warning, warning' sound, but I tell him 'that big airplane isn't going to come down and get you, he can't even see you!' It's their instinctive fear of anything higher than they are that they think could be a predator.
Even regular balloons! lol

Oh Yeah when lola sees something curious she always growls....and I'll come look and try to see and tell her "there's nothing there!" But apparently she does see something that I cant see!

Sometimes we'll be up in my room and sitting at my computer. Sometimes she'll just stare off into space or something will freak her out. It's weird.

You ever hear how children and pets can see spirits or ghosts?? You think it's possible that our birds can??

Is interesting you said that "see spirits or ghosts", Michelle! I sometime wonder too. Juju is usually pretty good in the shower but once in a while, she will just scream/squawk. :?:
