Talking

Postby KentV on Sun Jul 15, 2007 3:19 pm

Mine talks a lot. He's so sweet and cute. But I wonder: how many words will a BHC learn? My guy has about 8 words--and uses them all day long!

He also has a laugh, a whistle, a sigh, and a microwave oven beeper--mimicking our microwave precisely.

And at night, he has a sound to copy the creak as the bedroom door shuts and some other remote remnant of "goodnight."

Yankee doesn't say anything that I can recognize except for his version of "thank you." I would be thrilled if he could say 8 good words!

Cisco is only about 5 mo old but he is imitating sounds and whistles. He mumbles a little bit and it sound like he MIGHT be trying to talk but we we will give him quite a while yet before he gets labled as a non talker.

Our 'tiel learned new things untill he was an old man so anything is possible. But on that note that is not why we have feathered friends anyway, right?

Yep, Freddy. All I need is for Yankee to say, "and how much did that cost?" I love his nonverbal communications. They tell me more than words. Then, I am also very touched when he tries to mimic my whistles. Birds have so many ways to show that they love and depend on us.

My BHC does a few phrases, our names, many imitations (microwave, cellphone, other birds, etc.). The funniest is when she is practicing a new phrase. We have no idea what it is yet!

talking fids

Postby NancDavidDJ on Tue Jul 17, 2007 12:55 am

My cookie gives the kissy noise, she goes huh huh huh, which is kind of funny. Seems like she is immitating a laugh! She also does a wolf whistle ( when you see a pretty girl... ) She mumbles alot too :P -- I just filed her beak a little and clipped her nails. She was very good :D I am very happy with her. She is extremely friendly. She loves my toes too. She hops on the floor to try and catch them. Oh she also lifts her wings so I can pet under there. She loves my mouse on my computer. The lazer light I think attracts her and the wheel in between is soft, so that's chewing material. Sorry I rambled so much but she is so cool 8) ....

Daisy can quack like her little duckie, she says hello and step up, and laughs like I do. She knows about 8 whistles and that's how she calls me in the morning. I like to whistle, darnit...... or I think she'd talk more.

Daisy's learned to stay STEP UP and it's rather comical how often she says it. And every time she does, she also lifts her foot. Rather demanding little queen she is! LOL
