Hey Freddy
Congrats on finally getting the baby! What? Poop on your shirt? LOLOL Not like THAT has never happened to any of us before :D Once you get accustomed to his body language and habits, you'll be able to determine, once he poops, about how long you have with him until he poops again. I can count on having at least 20-25 minutes between poops, but don't expect them to be too consistent with that. They're birds - it's their nature to poop. lol

Do you have something for him to sleep in or near? We started Beaker out with a Birdy Buddy, but he sleeps in a Hide n Sleep now. He's always had something to sleep in or on. They like to lay on their sides or their backs to sleep, so you might want to look into something like that. It also provides some security for him while he's adjusting to all the changes in his young life.
Don't be in too much of a hurry to expect him to do 'this or that'. He's still trying to figure out who you are and where he is. He's beginning to develop his own personality and he's very young.

As far as caiques go, I don't think there's any better information than Sally Blanchard's "Companion Parrot Handbook". Not only does Sally have a caique, Spike le Bec, but the book is an excellent, general species publication of wonderful, easy to understand information for you AND your bird as you build your bond of trust.

As he is still a baby, I would try to keep his routines as consistent as possible. While they can and do sleep during the day, they really should have 10-12 hours of quiet, dark, uninterrupted sleep every night. I've always covered all my birds and I have happier, healthier birds with a solid sleep routine.

It sounds like you're enjoying the ride thus far. Keep us updated!

Thank you so much form the kind words. He does have a birdy bed but does not seem to use it. Tammy said he slept in one at the aviary but Im not sure why he is not here.

It is so cute to hear the baby stories. And those darn little caiques have to be the sweetest - most fun little guys.

Have fun and keep sharing the stories. I am anxious to see the baby pic's.

Tammy told me the same thing and Yank won't have anything to do with he. Maybe its a "flock thing." Yankee likes to sleep under a thing that has strips of felt knotted and hanging around a large bead. If you're interested, I look for the website and thing!

Thank Cathy - Ive seen that one. I will probably order one and see if he likes it. Whats the name again?

Does Yankee sleep on his side or back?

Scootie- THAT has to be one busy house with that many Caiques. You must have yours hands full every day. But the love value must be very high!!!!

Yankee only sleeps on his feet. He sleeps in a "flop house" from

http://www.chopperstoys.com/CatalogSleepers.html

He really loves it and surrounds himself every night. He mumbles in his sleep if I disturb him. He is so cute when he is sleeping that I want to look, but he doesn't like for me to disturb him. It's like he has his covers all arranged and doesn't want them to get messed up! I'll try to post a picture if he'll cooperate.

Congrats, Freddy!!! Zeke is one lucky birdy to get you for a parront! Bella LOVES her flophouse for sleeping. When the sun goes down, she walks herself right onto her perch, and I help her surround herself with the flophouse, and she is very content for the night. She never went for a sleep hut. She sleeps standing up with one foot tucked up. I have never covered her cage, and she does great. I also don't use her room after she is asleep, either. Bells has never given me a problem with bed time. Her natural body clock I think tells her that when it is getting dark outside it is time for sleep. I also put quiet music on for her when she is going to sleep. It is part of her night routine. Yes, she is very spoiled and I LOVE it!! Can't wait to see photos of your baby! Beth
