ANOTHER newbie, well kinda new, but old - kinda.

Postby Looony2nz on Sat Jun 02, 2007 9:01 pm

Hi guys. I am kinda new since its been almost 3 years...since I "adopted" my first caique. Well, if anyone remembers (maybe Andrea, who I now remember was waiting for her Eclectus, Skyler !!!) Anyway, we adopted 2 caiques, one BH and one WB. Long story short, the WB was a psycho and we ended up giving her to our breeder friend, and now we are getting one of her 6 chicks in about a month...... HOWZ THAT FOR A LONG STORY SHORT.
If I can ever figure out how to post pics I will. Do you guys post pics in your posts, or in a separate area.

Look forward to participating again - as much as possible since I'll be busy in about a month with a baby WB....and my BH, now almost 6 yrs old.
Yikes...
See ya,
Shari

Welcome back, Shari -- I remember you and your two. Just curious -- and forgive my asking a qx that I'm certain must have a complicated answer -- but why would you want a baby of a "psycho" bird? I'm mystified and wondering. And hoping the baby will fully measure up to all your expectations :)

We have joked about it - saying that if the chick was born with horns, we didn't want it  :D
But I will be able to "mold" this bird, so I'm not worried. I think her behavior stemmed from the fact that she was "sent" here (by plane) taken out of her familiar surroundings into new surroundings and she just didn't bounce back and freaked. (and my other one, Rocky) was agressive toward her - his way of freaking out at the time i guess)
but thanks, that was a valid question.
I actually wonder if Rocky (my BHC) will see this baby (in passing only, I won't allow them together for a while) and have "Athena Flashbacks"
See ya,
Shari

Hi Shari

Nice to have you back with us! My shortened 'long' story is that my husband & I had just moved into a beautiful new home, I got Skyler, got divorced and now live by myself in a townhome.
I have Skyler, who is now 3 1/2, a 2 1/2 year old male Alexandrine, Harper, and I'm doing a 'long term foster' with a 14 year old rescued female Indian Ring Neck, Piper. Beaker (bhc) will be 6 next month! YIKES
They grow up so fast.

I have four birds, still 2 cats, and I'm in the long process of getting used to my life right now.

Your new baby will be fine. Do what you've learned over the last 6 years, don't be afraid to learn new things for your bird, and just enjoy the baby!
Everything will be great!
Andrea

Andrea, I got Yankee and am now separating from my husband of 34 years. Are the two related, do you think? Maybe birds and husbands don't mix! Cathy

Don't say that Cathy! When I brought Zorro home, I got in BIG trouble with my boyfriend who actually thought about leaving me. I know, I know, it's easier to find another guy than bring back my birdie!
Thankfully he forgave me and is now trying to make friends with Zorro (who absolutely hates my boyfriend BTW).

OMG, nice to hear back from you Andrea, and OMG to you Cathy as well, I am sorry to hear about your situations, but I hope all works out well.
I am not in that direction fortunately, so, no, I don't think its due to getting a new bird.... :?
Anyhow, I have to tell you about some toys I ordered from an online person, I think from another bird board. I forget where I first saw the link, but I just got the toys in the mail yesterday, I was so impressed. If anyone is interested, its www.Bird-Go-Lucky.com . Please know that I am not related or anything to this person, just passing along a great value. The toys are very nice and big !!
See ya,
Shari

Cathy
So sorry to hear about your separation. I just got divorced 1 1/2 years ago, but it's ok. I'm doing great. The first thing I did however, when I knew I was going to divorce my husband, was to 'sell' my two birds (at that time) to a friend. She gave me $20.00 and we did a complete legal bill of sale and transfer of owership. Whatever happens before any 'process' starts is 'done', and nothing any judge says can change that.
I was fortunate my husband elected to 'stay away' and I was able to change the locks so my birds, while sort of being sold, could actually still remain in my home. He would never have taken them or hurt them, but I wasn't going to even let him think they were negotiable in any way. Once the divorce was final, I gave my friend her $20.00 back and we shredded the paperwork.
(There are many, many things most men do NOT need to know!)

Thanks for the input about the toys. I've been making toys for 5 years now and I always like to see other folks' ideas. You can go to cheepparrottoysntips@yahoogroups.com and learn to make your own toys too!

Men don't like having us give our birds more attention than them. They are mostly just big babies.

After Bob and I got our 1st birds (we weren't married) it was harder to spend time together because we had responsibilities at home now. He kept getting more birds so he couldn't stay at my house much because he had to be at home. I didn't want him to move in with me because he had way tooo many birds. We ended up splitting up - and now I have 8 birds. He has none and 3 of his are now mine. What a complicated web we weave. But I never have time to be lonely and I love every one of my birds.

I have to go see if I can help a friend who's bird flew off her shoulder. It is in some tree's in a park and it has been out there for 3 or 4 days. We are to get severe weather tonight and I can't bare to think of him out there. We have too many hawks too.

I'm praying you're able to coax him down. I have a hard time swallowing my anger at people who let birds get into such danger.
