Hi Shari
How great to have you back!! All is well here and I now have a 3 year old male Alexandrine, Harper, and a 15 year old female IRN that came from a large rescue at The Gabriel Foundation about 1 1/2 years ago. Of course, no one interacts so I have my hands full, but with only Skyler being fully flighted, the others stay on their playstands well. How are you? Sorry to hear about your other caique, but that is always a possibility with any species. Sometimes, no matter how much we know and try to do to work with them, they just have other agendas. I watched Sally Blanchard's 'Spike le Bec' for a month this past summer and while I thought I had caiques all figured out, he taught me all kinds of new things. LOLOLOLOL He's a great bird, we just had to go thru some 'missing mom' adjustment, then everything was good. Spike is actually 20 years old and Beaker just turned 7 years old if you can believe that! YIKES!!
Thanks for the info about bird toys. I'm still making toys, but they are always for donation except the few I made for The Birdbrain, the retail arm of The Gabriel Foundation. I donate the toys and when the sell, the money goes directly to help the birds at TGF. A good friend, Cindy Dietrich (who gave me my Skyler), Sally Blanchard, Susanne Cochran, (who owns Avalon Aviary where I got Beaker, and I, all did a toy making seminar last summer that was a huge success. It was a lot of fun, we had a great turn out, and I'm hoping to be able to do something similar for TGF one day. I'm always interested in finding new sources for toys, especially if they're creative, original and reasonably priced!!
Enough from me, good to have you back and let us know when you get that new baby!
Hugs,
Andrea
