I am so excited for you Briana. Another benefit to being young is having the energy to deal with more than 1 parrot!

It sounds so exciting and I wish you could put a camera in your pocket. Just remember that if you have any doubts about the bird, to think about it and visit again. One of the neat things about this bird is that he should already have gone through the "terrible twos!"

Yankee has a 1" cage and it is just fine for him and he is still a skinny toddler. I also read, when I was researching for my PPP, that 1 inch was acceptable for caiques.

I really hope that it works out, especially for this caique who needs a forever home. How lucky to get someone who finally understands, as much as we can, caiques.

Let us know ASAP what happens.

Thank you Cathy for your kind words! It really means a lot! I have been emailing the owner of the rescue almost non-stop asking questions. I think she is getting sick of me because she emails back less often now! I hope I'm not scaring her away with my excitement. I just can't wait to visit him.
I have another question: Does anyone use Scenic brand pellets? I guess he is on Scenic Chili Pepper pellets and a little seed, and of course his veggies and fruits. I usually use a mix of 2 different pellets (the ones that are available here in the "Boonies"- Kaytee Exact and Pretty Bird, which I know are not the best but he gets his daily veggies and fruits with other extras like birdie bread and such), and 2 different seed mixes (Kaytee Feista and L'Avian Tropical). Would this be an adequate switch?

Does this diet sound ok?

He has been on it for about 2 years and has been doing great. In fact, I think I may need to feed more pellets since I think he has gained a little weight from the sunflower seeds in the seed mixes.

How far are you from Stillwater? There is a bird fair there next weekend?

I actually have a booth at the Stillwater fair, since I breed lovebirds. I will buying toys for Zorro then too. I will be visiting Zorro on Friday, getting toys, perches, treats and eveything on Saturday and picking up Zorro an Sunday (if we get along).
And un update: My sister is giving me the cage she got, it is VERY large and it is stainless steel. I have to get a boingy for his cage just like Dweezel's and some comfy perches

I actually did a mapquest seach after I posted. Are you really over 5 hours away from this show?

The reason that I asked, was because I can usually find about every kind of food for birds at the bird fairs that I go to. I have had to limit myself to going only every 2 or 3 months because I spend too much money everytime I go. Since, my sons are in no hurry to get married and give me my very loooong awaited granddaughters, I spend too much money on Yankee! lol

How exciting to be getting a stainless steel cage. It is on my "if I win the lottery" list! Does your sister have birds, too?

Yes, I live over 5 hours away, BUT my family live only 30 minutes from there so when I go down for a sale, I stay with them and get to see my family. I don't mind driving that far, I'm pretty used to it!

The cage I am getting is an older stainless steel, it's not that fancy, it's probably from the 80's. It is about 3ft tall by 26" wide by 24" deep. It's stand is like 2.5' tall too so it's huge on the stand! It's got a flat square top so I can hang toys well and it has the outside access food and water dish, which I like.

My sister took in my Senegal because my Senegal bonded with her really bad. It all worked out nice because my sister watch my Senegal (Juliah) while I was in Europe for a month and when I first started at College. They bonded really strong but I took Juliah up here to Bemidji to live with me when I bought my own place. Since then, Juliah had held a grudge against me and was only happy when I brought her to visit my sister. I decided it was best for all if she just stayed with my sister. Now everyone is happy because Juliah is the only bird and is so spoiled, it makes me really happy! My sister just loves her and they are the perfect match. I miss her sometimes but I get to see her whenever I go to visit (although Juliah hates me still and will attack me when given the chance). There's more to the story but it's a really long one, let's just say it all worked out and everyone is happy!

(Normally I would never give up a bird, especially since she was my first bird, but in this case, she was just not happy here with me and is now much happier in her current situation)

I talked to the owner of the rescue again last night. She said Zorro's results won't be back until at least 1.5 weeks after Monday! That makes me sad since she originally told me he wouls have his results back on the 8th! Oh, well, that give me more time to get ready for him and buy him lots of new toys!
She also told me that his is a very quite bird and I wonder how loud it will get in this house when he eventually meets Dweezel!

Does that mean that you can't visit him as you had planned?

She said I could still visit but before I get near anyother birds or go to the store to get him toys and such, I have to make sure I take a shower and change my clothes, better safe than sorry! And that's no big deal, I don't want anything to happen to anyone else's birds just because I wanted to visit Zorro and didn't take precautions!
