Dweezel's hatchdate!

Postby brimonster on Tue Apr 17, 2007 1:04 pm

I finally located my Caique's breeder. We got him from a Petco in MN, and they were supposed to send us his paperwork that had his hatchdate on it but never did. I finally found his breeder in Florida. She is from Gulf Coast Exotics. She said Dweezel's hatchdate is March 24th, 2004! Yay! It's too bad I didn't get in contact sooner or I would have been able to celebrate it with him! No worries though, because on Sunday, he got his new cage, which is the best hatchday present ever!

Looks like a good HQ cage! Also great you were able to find out his hatchday!

Most of Petco's birds tend to come from Florida although I'm not too sure about Petsmarts, Petsupermarkets, and any other chain petstores out there...

Yeah, the cage is a Prevue/hendryx signiture. The Petco I worked at also got birds from Arizona, Minnesota, California and somewhere else, I forgot.
Is there anything else I can do to get him to like his new cage? He has a few new toys, some of his old toys, 2 perches that he knows, and he has been getting lots of treats while he is on or in his cage. Everytime he climbs on it or flies to it, I praise him and give him scritches. Is there anything else I can do?

Looks more like the HQ Cages... especially with the double slots above and below the door... but I guess with that door latch and gym design you could be right.... it's just not like any Prevue Cage I've ever seen (and most that I have tend to be crap).

I know, when I saw the pic of it I didn't believe it was a prevue either, but it says "Prevue-Hendryx Signature" on the top tray.

I love the color. I think that just letting him adjust to it slowly is the key. How do you know that he doesn't like it? What does he do?

When I took Yankee to Ohio he had a much, much smaller cage but he didn't have a fit about it. When he goes to school he has an even smaller cage but he doesn't seem to mind as long as he can see me. Maybe, it is because he is so young.

What did the breeder have to say about Dweezel? Did you find out how long he was at the pet store before you found him?

When Dweezel is on his cage, he only stays for about 5 minutes or so, then flies to me. When I "send" him back to his cage, he will land somewhere else, just to avoid it. When he is in the cage and I open it, he will run out like he is getting attacked (which he never did with any other cage), and when he is in there and I am sitting in the living room, he "beeps" constantly, which is his sign of being scared or bored. I have yet to see him play in there either. I know it may take a little bit for him to get used to but I think he should love the room he has. The last cage he was in was pretty small because it was supposed to be a temporary cage while he converted to pellets. But after he converted, I put him back in the aviary (his old cage) and he ravaged the lovebird food so I decided to get him his own cage.
As far as the breeder goes, I only asked her about his hatchdate. She told me when he had gone to Petco which was consistent with what Petco told us. When we got him he was almost a year old (they had said about a year), which is why we got him (we got a discount too). He was hatched March 24th, 2004 and we got him around March 12th, 2005. I don't know what other kind of information I should have asked. I guess nothing else was really important to me. He was healthy when we got him and he is now so I didn't ask about his parents' temperments or anything. She is a rather small breeder (compared to the other ones that supply pet stores) and she seems really nice.

It's great that you found his breeder! We also got Sparky from a PetCo and they knew his hatch date (March 29th, 2004) but nothing else. After we brought him home, I tried to find his breeder but without much to go on, didn't have any luck. How'd you track her down? I would still like to know where Sparky came from, just to satify my curiosity. Hey, with hatch dates so close together, maybe Sparky and Dweezel are brothers. Wouldn't that be funny? Anyway, happy belated hatch day Dweezel!

I found Dweezel's breeder from a yahoo group called "Leg Band Numbers"
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LegBandNumbers/
He is from Florida, Gulf Coast Exotics. His band has the GCE FL so I knew he was from Florida but couldn't find the aviary. His band also has his hatch year so I knew approximately how old he was.
