Hi everyone, I wanted to say thank you all for all the wonderful information I have been getting from this site. I have a cute little BHC who will be 2 years old on April 29. She has been a part of my life since she was 4 months old. I call her "she" but it is just a guess. She has never been DNA tested, but I thought it better than being called it. Her name is Jessie B. The B. stands for bee as in busy bee. That is just what she is, very busy. I live in West Milford, NJ which is in the northern part of Jersey. About 1 hour (in good traffic) out side of New York City. I am not very good with the computer, so it took me some time to figure out how to send a message. Jessie is so smart, my husband says she's smarter than me. Sometimes I wonder. She does talk a little, she is potty trained, she tells me "poop"and walks a few steps backward or shakes her tail a little then I pick her up and put her on her T- Stand. Now she tells me poop just to get me to pick her up. Jessie has me well trained. She also makes household sounds like the exact sound and pitch of our security system. When she hears me coming in she beeps. She is a very playful little soul and I love her very much.

Hi All:

Now that Jessie B. is almost 2 years old, I would like to know how terrible are the terrible twos? She doesn't seem any different to me. She does play very hard and beaks me alot, but never in a aggressive manner. She can get a bit wild at times and her antics make me laugh out loud. She also laughs along with me which makes me laugh harder. I have heard that they become a different bird around two years of age. I hope not. I do play with her alot. She gets between 3 and 4 hours sometimes more, of play time with me a day. I am lucky to be at home during the day so she really is quite spoiled. Oh well thats why I have pets. They are great company. I also have a Shih Tzu and two cats. Both cats are on in years so getting a bird was not a worry. They both spend their days sleeping. Not much interest in a bird, although I would never leave them in a room alone together. Take care till next time...

Hi Karen,
We brought our male WBC, Sparky, home when he was 8 months old and he is now 3. Mika, our female WBC, came home last June at about 4 months old and is now just over a year old. Jessie B. sounds a lot like Sparky: plays hard is very sweat and a very spoiled little charmer. His terrible twos started a bit late, at about two and a half. Other than a wild tempertantrum in the morning he was mostly the same sweat guy we'd taken home with us. Mostly he'd play and want attension as ussual but every so often he'd puff all his feathers out, his eyes would start to pin and then the screamming fit would start. He didn't really go after us unless we were trying to pick him up and he'd wear himself out after a few minutes and return to his ussual self. A couple things we learned: getting him to eat something first thing after he wakes up helps his mood considerably and can mitigate the tantrums. We sometimes stick a spoon with a little peanut butter on it right in front of him when we see the very beginings of a bad mood. Also, Sparky is fully flighted and while it can make it harder to get a hold on him when he is upset, it also is a way for him to burn off that frustrated energy. Good luck with Jessie B. and I don't think you will completely loose the birdy you know, she just might go missing for a short time. :-)

Hi Sandy,

Jessie also puffs up her yellow feathers the ones around her beak, when she is getting upset or if she doesn't like someone. She is almost 2 and the hormones are probably starting. Also I was reading some of the other posts about spring. I'll bet some of her more aggressive behavior has something to do with spring. I have become pretty good at reading her body language. I know not to go near her when she is eating something she really likes. She will squeal at me and puff her cheek feathers. Fair warning, I mind my own business. I sometimes use a favorite toy to distract her if she is getting fresh. Life with a parrot is certainly interesting. Take care...

Welcome Karen!
I have a 3 year old BHC named Dweezel. He is DNA sexed and we got him when he was a year old. When he hit puberty, he decided to switch his favorite person. He used to love playing with my boyfriend, but now he will attack him if he gets a good chance (usually). Lately, my boyfriend has been bribing him with peanut butter which seems to be working. Other than that, Dweezel is his same goofy self after and during his terrible twos. He likes so show off for company by hopping on the table and saying, "Hop, hop, hop," and then "Beer!" Don't ask me, he just loves saying beer.
