WB Caique

Postby t3sillyquakers on Wed Jan 24, 2007 9:47 am

Im in love with the WB Caique. I have noticed that it's easier to find BH, so far I don't know anyone who has WB. Have seen many BH in person but never seen a WB, well, just in pics and videos.

Are BH favored?

Wondering where did you buy your WBCaique, would really like to see one in person?

The BH are more common. I have two WBs and got my first from PetCo and my second from a breeder in Norther VA, DJ Aviaries http://www.djfeathers.com/

Tammy at DJ Feathers is great and she will ship all over the US. While your new bird is still being hand-fed, you can visit in person or watch the babies on the feathercam.

The personalities seem to be very similar between the BH and WB. The differences are color and WB are usually just a bit bigger.

Oh, I don't know if they're 'favored' but it might be what is available. Where I get my birds they happened to have one of each that were about a year old. You could play with both. We fell in love with the WB as this particular bird was so playful and insisted on your attention. We just cracked up at his antics. Mark (the owner of the Parrot Connection in Reno) had babies of both types, so we got our name in for a WB. We adore Daisy. She's only 7 months old but is everything and more than we'd hoped for.

Good luck finding whichever you decide on!

When looking for another companion bird, I was dead set on another Senegal. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon a WB Caique and he was so playful, my BF fell in love. That particular bird was sold and they had baby BH that were still handfeeding so we went somewhere else and found a BH. That was why we got ours. He is just the funniest and sweetest thing!

Yankee is a BH from Tammy at DJ Aviaries as noted above. He is also 7 months old. They breed in the Spring.

Parrot Pleasures has the WB, they are located in Florida. Where are you?

I love my BH. I wanted a WB, but Tammy only had Yankee available and he had been DNAed and I wanted a male so it just seemed to be right. And so far it has been "happily ever after!" He is a wonderful bird with a really great personality. Caiques are definately amusing and fun to be around. His only bad habit is chewing holes in my clothes when I am not watching him and we are still working on potty training.

Good luck in your search. They are definately not easy to find.

According to my research, black headed caiques breed easier in captivity than white bellied which is why they are easier to find. There is also more of a breeding stock available with black headed caiques because of that.
