pin feathers

Postby deee2 on Fri Dec 08, 2006 11:40 pm

Daisy has a lot of pin feathers! I've never even noticed one on my senegal, but Daisy sure has them! Should I do anything for her? She seems to be preening a lot! Is this normal for caiques?

Thank you!

    Yes, this is normal :-)

Just give her lots of showers (shower/bath or spray her daily) and if she lets you, gently help her by preening her head/neck.

She might be a bit grumpy for a while.

If she'll let you, get the softest toothbrush you can find and let her play with it. Then, brush her feathers with it very lightly. It should loosen some of the sheaths surrounding those pesky pin feathers and hasten the molting process.

Darn you Gramma! LOL She gets a bath (or shower) every day, but you should see these pin feathers! Actually, they're getting a bit better and she does let us rub them gently.
