Hi Everyone...I was here a long time ago, and just haven't been back it seems. :( I never took you out of my links, though. I have been posting when I can on "the other" forum, and just thought I would stop by tonight, and I must say, I love the new set up, and how active you are. I am really going to try and be a part of both forums, as it really seems there are great caring people on both. I aplogize for just dropping out of sight last year. I think there are more Caique owners, though, on this one, which I am excited about. I am Bella's Mom, Beth. Some of you may remember when I first posted last year, and I shared about Bella being in in BirdTalk magazine last Fall, right after I adopted her? Bella is doing wonderful. She will be 2 in March. I would love to post a few photos of her, but do not see where I can have an attachment to a post. Can someone help? :? I am looking forward to getting reacquainted with everyone. Take care.....

Hi Beth
How wonderful to have you back and know your baby is doing well. Wow, 2 years old?!?!? They grow up so fast don't they?
Someone here, I think it's Michelle, is the photo guru. I joined Photo Bucket and I still stumble through getting my pics on, but we'd LOVE to see new pics of Bella!
Glad to have you back!

Hi Beth, it's nice to meet you. What issue were you in last year? I am new to caiques as I have only had my baby since the end of October but I am thoroughly hooked! I have a male, BH caique that was born on June 27. I got him from DJ Aviaries and he is a real sweety.

I didn't know that there was another caique forum. What is the address of that one?

I'm glad to have you on-line and look forward to getting to know you and your fid.

Hi Cathy..It is nice to meet you, too. It sure doesb't take long to get attached to a Caique, does it? I adopted my Bella last October, and I was instantly attached to her sweetness. I NEVER thought a bird could be so lovable! This is my first experience with birds, and I am thrilled! You are a teacher, too? I teach 4th grade. I was on medical leave and then a Sabbatical when I adopted Bella, and was SO worried about going back to work this Fall since she was used to me being home. She has done great. I am the one who is a mess, and missing her during the day! I am STILL adjusting!!! I am hoping for a few snow days this year to be home with her!!! The other forum has less Caique owners, but has wonderful people, too! It is the following: http://www.parrotstrut.com/forums/index.php
I hope I am not stepping on any toes by posting this. :( It is just another nice place to chat with people who love their birds as much as we do.
Bella was in the Mailbag part of the February/2006 BirdTalk issue. her photo is there, as well as a letter I wrote in response to questions they asked. I was thrilled to have her published!! :D Looking forward to getting to you, and your birds.

school

Postby Cathy on Sun Nov 26, 2006 9:38 am

Beth, I am planning on taking Yankee to school with me after the Christmas holidays. I don't know if it will work out but I think that I am going to give it a try. If nothing else, it will serve as a social studies exercise. Have you ever taken Bella to school?

Hi Cathy....No I haven't, but my students REALLY want me to. They are fascinated by the photos I have of her there, and all I share with them. I think I am going to wait now until the Spring when it is warmer out around here. I just hate to bring her out in cold mornings. Bella also is a VERY routine little girl, and loves her morning routine, and I am little worried about disrupting that for her. Bella also is not the best riding in a car. The poor baby gets car sick. I have a 40 minute commute to my school, so that is a worry for me, too. When I do bring her in, I want to also have my other, smaller cage there for her, so if she needs a break from the kids to eat, drink, she will have a place to go, although I am sure she would be glued to me like velcro. You will have to let me know how Yankee does if you bring him.

PA

Postby Cathy on Sun Nov 26, 2006 10:02 am

I grew up in Ohio and I know what you mean about taking her outside when it is that cold. We moved to GA about 25 years ago and I forget about y'all up there. Even though it rarely gets very cold where I live, I have an attached garage and I plan to make sure my car is warm before I put Yankee in it. I am only about 7-10 minutes from school. He is such a snuggle bunny that he will probably burrow under my jacket while we walk into school. I just have to think of a way to protect my clothes. So far, I have only one negative problem with the little devil, he can put a whole in fabric before I can even get the word "no" out of my mouth. I'll let you know how it goes. Wish me luck!

Good luck!! I am sure Yankee will love it, and your kids will love him!!! Georgia is certainly much more temperate then PA in December/January! No problem with the mistake....I LOVE spell checker for that reason! I know I make a ton of mistakes when there isn't spell checker to catch my typos! Have a good one!

Car sick?

Postby Cathy on Sun Nov 26, 2006 3:16 pm

When you say car sick, are you talking about the bird actually throwing up?

I didn't know how lucky Yankee and I were because he flew from Virginia into Atlanta and then it was about 2 1/2hours to get home. He seemed to have a great time. I never even thought about a bird getting motion sick. I know that he did not get sick in the air because his carrier did not show any signs and he was in excellent condition upon arrival.

WoW, birds get motion sick!!!

Yes... Bella if she has eaten before we go for a car ride, will reguritate her food, shaking her little head, so it splatters everywhere. It is so hard for me to see. I feel so badly for her. Her carrier is normally a mess by the time we get back home. I've tried different positions of the carrier, and even covering her carrier, but nothing really seems to help. I am talking to her the whole time, too, trying to calm her, but it doesn't help. It breaks my heart. She does seem better on an empty tummy..ie..on the way home say from the vet, as she threw up everything on the way! Poor baby...If I do take her to school, I will need to wait to feed her until we get there. You are lucky Yankee is OK with movement in a car. I don't think birds getting car sick is super common, but it does happen, as you can see from Michelle's post, too!
