What have I missed?

Postby Cathy on Sun Jun 14, 2009 10:45 pm

Well, friends, I have been totally off of the site for about a year. I have missed y'all so please tell me what I have missed? Have any of you gotten new birds or discovered any great sites?

Since I just got a new computer, I am hoping to reestablish some old friendships and find some new ones.

Just to catch you up with me, I still am the happy parront of Yankee, my black-headed caique.

I moved to Ohio from Georgia after being there for 28 years when my mother had a stroke. She and my dad are doing well.

I am still teaching, although the economy in Ohio sure made it difficult! School systems want to hire teachers who have little or no experience beause they are so much cheaper, salary.

My 3 sons are all still single-not a grandchild even close. I feel guilty for hoping that someones birth control doesn't work! Just kidding!!! I think.

I am on vacation now so I am looking at a cinnamon conure. I don't even want to think what may happen when I retire! He is a real cutie, but I am still in the thinking stage. Yankee really doesn't like too many people, so I keep thinking that I will get a fid that I can take to school. My p'let was hurt before I got him, so he doesn't like to come out of his cage. So.... I think 3 is my magic number-3 sons, 3 dogs, almost 3 fids? Tell me why I shouldn't get another bird!

Hi Cathy,

Nice to hear from you! This board has been pretty quiet lately.... I am guilty myself, I have been reading the posts but not posting myself.

I still have 2 birds - my Senegal Joey has turned 10 in June and my BHC Jamie is 5 years old. Time just flies.... Jamie was going through a difficult time (feather/skin problems) in the winter. She pulled a lot of feathers and the rest of them just looked dull and unhealthy. She wore a collar for a few months but luckily she is back to herself - cute, playful, funny and her feathers are georgeous again. We will see what the next breeding season brings...

I don't know whether a conure is the best choice for a bird being taken to school. Conures tend to be a one-person bird. Linda can tell you more - she has a few (I think). All my friends' conures are one-person birds. However, it is true that my friends can take them to places because the conures just want to hang on them. So maybe it depends whether you expect any interactions between the conure and the kids?
