Hi, I am surprised no one replied to this post yet - so I will. I personally would not put a nest box on for your bird. I am sure they are a nice cozy place to be but I think it might make them more territorial. And as they get sexually mature - it triggers more hormones as they want to nest. All of my birds except the amazon, have a birdie hut and they all sleep in them. Some people do not like the huts and believe that they also trigger the hormonal issues (this is when they are adult birds, so not to worry until at least 2 yrs or so). The other concern is for safety, threads getting caught, etc. My birds have had them always and the oldest ones turned 10 years this March. When it is time to go to sleep, they go up into their little tents and sleep there. If something really scares them (like a really big noisy truck, or snow plow in the driveway) they will go up into their beds. If their light isn't on and the sun goes down and the room gets dark, they just actomatically go get in their little bed. They get to rest their little legs and I am sure that they feel safer in their little place.
Good luck with your new little caique - they are just the greatest little birds.
