If i hadnt found these sorts of groups on the internet with all the much appreciated advise and reassurance i would have passed him onto an aviary thinking he was unhappy and worrying about doing something wrong to him. I know i was silly to just rush into him but never regretted it, the thought of him stuck in that crappy cage for the rest of his life not being loved really upsets me. He is a happy guy now and trust is VERY slowly coming. He now sits on his perch comfortably with his door open and as long as im sat quietly im allowed to sit close to him as long as i dont try and touch him. Bless him.

Bless YOU, Debbie :) Who knows what that poor boy has endured before landing at your place? He's making wonderful progress, it seems to me. Have you tried offering your nose through the cage bars, while softly whistling a happy tune? That won my former breeder cockatiels quickly. They've never developed a trust for my hands, but they love my nose and lips, hair, shirttails. When they're down low, they'll even let me bend over and kiss their backs, but no hands, no thanks, mom!

NO CHANCE! Can now get within few inches when door open without him taking off to back of cage but he is poised ready with 1 foot on his swing in case i try any funny business. He likes to be in cage all the time as he knows now that i wont try and get him but he does like door open. If he suspects i want to shut door on him he flies out sometimes touching me as he goes past but only lands on curtain pole then straight back to top of cage where he shakes himself and squawks at me cockily thinking hes foiled my plan!He then climbs straight back in. Hes so cute when he does that but happy for door to be shut on him at bedtime thank goodness. I can go out while his door is open as i know he wont come out. He is occasionally making squeaking noises at me when sat close and being ignored so is starting to interact. We sit close and watch Riley on you tube he loves Riley!

Billy is amazing, I cant believe how different he is to 4 months ago. Were still nowhere near tame but at least i can let him have his freedom in the lounge every day without worrying about getting him back in. (Touch wood) Ive learnt to read his body language as to how he wants things to be with me. The green guy doesnt know what compromise is, its all on his terms. He has a perch he uses when he wants interaction, and play peepo a quiet perch where he wants to be talked to or watch Riley and his swing means he wants to be left alone but is usually eavesdropping and taking most notice of whats going on but doesnt want to be included. Either that or hes fast asleep in that strange position they do. Like i said before its only thanks to the sort of advice from these parrot posts i received that weve got so far. We are both eternally grateful for it, me more so than Billy. THANK YOU!
