new dog with possible ear mites

Postby Darren on Fri Mar 14, 2008 7:14 am

Hey guys. We just bought a new dog, and he may have ear mites. He is taking treatment for these. Let me preface this by saying the bird will never be out around the dog, for teeth reasons ... but I just wonder, with the possibility of mites, is it safe for the dog and bird (caged and high enough that the dog can't reach) to be in the same room, and should I wash my hands after handling the dog and before handling the bird? Thanks.

I'd have a chat with my avian vet early this morning if I were in your shoes  From your earlier posts about your devotion to the budgie boy, I'm guessing you have a trusted avian vet, but if not and you need help finding one, just post what larger towns you're closest to and maybe we can help you find a good one. Always a good plan to have a vet who considers you a client in case there's ever an emergency.

    My best, Paca
