vet consult

Postby bostonbudgie on Sun Mar 16, 2008 12:54 pm

I have a vet consult tommorrow evening. I hope it is not a tumor. it is possilbe she is just obese. I notice that she actually doesn't eat much however....Not only Smitty feeds her but I noticed ALL of the other competing males 'sneak' in a "feed" as well. I hate to have to lock her up because she is the one that needs the exercise.
sigh..females always get in trouble because of pesky males

Hey there. I just read this thread.... My experience might help.

I have a male and female budgie together in a cage and the female budgie always eats the most and is prone to obesity. She's had a couple fatty tumors in her life.

Now they are on a strict diet of a heaping 1/2 teaspoon each of Harrison's mash in the morning (which stays around all day) and 1 teaspoon each of seed at night. (They get a touch more in the winter or when they're up late.) They each have their own bowl, so that they eat simultaneously. Other than the pellet, they do not have any food sitting around for them to snack on. In addition, they get greens and carrots.

This diet has worked well for me even though it seems shockingly small. My budgies are both 9 now with no fatty tumors!

Good luck
Elisa
