Minimal success

Okay so I have had Petey for several months now but I just have not spent a whole lot of consistent time trying to tame him. Well, over the weekend I got on the floor and would put my finger in front of him for just a few seconds at a time. The first time he put one foot for just a second on my finger, I would take my hand away after it was apparent he was done with it and a minute or two later put my hand back in with my finger "perched." After that he would hop on my finger and get off right away. We did this several times....the good part is it seems everytime we did it he stayed a fraction of a second longer than the last!

Now I tried it yesterday and I don't know if it was his mood or the fact it was yesterday evening so maybe he was tired....but the first time he tapped one foot on my finger, but would never get on. Generally though he didn't snap that my finger was there or anything. And even when I woudl try to move my finger closer and he didn't want it, he would just put his beak to my finger to act like he was going to bite (not using beak for leverage to get on though) but wouldn't.

A bit of success anyway!

he didn't want anything to do with it last night. But he didn't bite when I put my hand in or squawk so that is good! Sometimes he bites or threatens to bite.

What was funny though is I had my cockatiel on my shoulder and I took his food out of his cage and my tiel wanted the leftovers so I set the dish on top of the budgies cage and let Charley get up there and eat out of it. Well......after a while Petey had had it with Charley being up there so Petey climbs to the top of the inside of his cage and nips Charleys foot! LOL...not hard but enough to say "my cage!"
