Take notes please if you are attending the Houston show

I have been looking forward for some time now to the upcoming Budgie show on Sept. 1 & 2 in Houston, I really wanted to meet and greet some of the local budgie gurus. I LOVE budgies!!

However, it looks like I may be getting a few budgies via the airlines and we all know that going to an airport these days is a major time consuming event.

Drat.

Y'all please go and come back here and write what you saw?

It's two separate shows, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Are you going to the airport both days?

Come on out! It's loads of fun! Lunch is provided both days. The budgie auction will be held Sunday after the show as well as the raffle drawing for all the goodies (items) on the tables - bird treats, usually a cage, a small TV or DVD player, etc. There are always some birds offered for sale as well as well as a few "flat carriers" with wire tops (Cabin Kennels).

The two judges have never judged in the U.S. before.

Come and meet breeders from all over TX, LA as well as some from FL.

Pick up information on the Houston Budgerigar Society as well as the D/FW Exhibition Budgie Club the 2 budgie clubs of Texas. You can also pick up info on the Budgerigar Association of America a national budgie organization or check out there web site. http://www.budgerigarassociation.com

We hope to meet lots of new people. Everyone is there to help new people to this part of the hobby understand what is taking place. If you have a question PLEASE ask us. :)

See you there!

I think it might be worthwhile to post info on the Houston Budgie Association here as well as have it available at the show.

I suggest also a call today or tomorrow to the Houston Chronicle city desk(citydesk@chron.com Phone: 713-220-7491) to see if they will do an article about English budgies and run it prior to the show on Friday: it helps to take a few appealling pix and write some copy you can email to them, I will help if you like. You need some quotes from Budgie gurus in the copy and of course clear descriptions of the event and where it is located.

This is an annual show for the Houston Budgerigar Society, always over the Labor Day weekend. There was an article in the news paper, I believe it was titled The Budgie Man of Grimes County with pics and a long article when the HBS held the Budgerigar Association of America's Grand National Budgie Show.

When the D/FW Budgie Club convinced the Houston Club to host an early May spring show there was an ad taken out in the Houston paper. It was well received with lots of phone calls and people showing up for the event.

I am not a member of the Houston Club so I don't know what they have done for this show. I do know that this club (and all clubs) is looking for members and love those who are willing to help the organization. As the a board member of the Budgerigar Association of America I do try and help all our affiliated clubs get the message out about their shows. This is one site that I announce them on.

If anyone would like more information to the Houston Budgerigar Society you should contact Carroll Myers at myerscl@worldnet.att.net I believe most of the monthly meetings are held at his house. Please be sure to put something about budgies on the subject line. Like many of us, he does not open e-mails that have no subject title.

If they are looking for members, the way to help do that is t set up a list or site so that people who do not have time to attend a particular show or even various meetings can still talk with other Houston budgie people.

It is a minimum of effort to set up a list and often will form a community where people get to know and help each other.

Thank you we have, it's called the Budgerigar Association of America http://www.budgerigarassociation.com

Also all one has to do is use Google to find bird Clubs in their state on other bird club listing sites. I just did it recently and out of the 40 sites I check out (I got tired) only 4 had incorrect info or missing info. I sent them the updated info.
