missing eggs

Postby d4shee on Thu Aug 23, 2007 6:37 pm

When my budgie's are nesting there are eggs one day and the next day they are gone? Does anyone know what is going on or can help me?? Have eight breeding pairs in a large aviary.

You've got an egg eater in the bunch! It can be a cock or a hen. Once an egg eater always an egg eater. Unless you catch the culprit with "egg on his/her face" you will not know it is unless you set each pr up in individual breeding cages.

This is one of the ugly things that can happen when colony breeding. There are others. This is why individual cage breeding is more sucessful and less stressful on the birds. Leave the flight cage for vacation time.

...and some aggressibe females will destroy nests and babies of other pairs, even if there are more than enough aviary room and nesting boxes. I know that other breeders can raise their birds in colonies and produce babies by the hundreds...
